I think I will always be down on Ellis because for every play he makes I can count 10 game changing plays or scheme affecting plays that Moss has made.

I know most think Moss is a turd but you can't argue with talent that rivals Jerry Rice (after 7 seasons - 93TDs).........Moss (after 7 seasons - 90TDs).

Anyway that is not the point of this thread.

It's only been one game but I 've got to give Ellis his props for hanging in their after the situation early in camp.

He's bought into his role and we haven't heard a word out of him since he stated he'll be a team guy. He could have been another Bryant, Morgan or Wiley.

He had 1/2 a sack on Sunday ( I think his pressure force Brees into Roy). He had excellent contain on his side. He's fresher due to the rotation and its pretty evident because he appeared to manhandle his assignement on every play.

It's only game one, but props to Ellis.

I agree and think Ellis will only do better as this defense becomes second nature to him.

I agree..he was pretty active. I'd really like to see him in the 4-3 at times with Ware and Glover and Spears/Canty all lined up.

I'm sure we'll see that as times goes by. I've always felt if they could get another pass rushing DE on the field at the same time as Ellis, that Ellis would blossom as a QB killer.

We'll see.

Did you see Ellis getting blocked by Brees on the Wr reverse? He should of nailed him. Too nice to be a QB killer.

I saw it. It appeared he was worried about contain on the outside and was expecting help from the inside.

It was a great block by Brees though.

We will see. I was not as impressed as some may have been. I hope that Ellis continues to become more of a factor but time will tell. I see the rookies getting better and getting more time. I see Ellis slipping a bit.

Anything could happen. We will see how it plays out.

I don't know. I like Ellis, but that was embarrassing, any way you slice it. Should have thrown Bress aside and taken an angle that would force the ball carrier to the inside if all he was worried about was outside contain.

Nice game for Ellis as usual. He'll get more notice for his efforts now that he has some decent help.

Canty, Spears, Rat are the future at 3-4 DE.

Ellis doing his best - good vet leadership.

Before this last draft he was the best defensive lineman we have drafted in probably the last ten years, you could also argue we drafted some real stinkers too. I honestly think that drafting lineman is almost like QB's you can't tell if the team is just that great or the individual players are. Look at Meriman for example, he had good team mates and I would say the jury is still out on him. By the way anybody remember the trash talk coming from him about how he was gonnna @#!@#!# Dallas. If we goofed up by not taking Moss at least we can be comforted that we didn't take Merriman, anybody rmeember how many takers we had on here for him, oh and while we're at it there were a lot of folks saying we should get Brunell, we'll see how he does this week abut that was one of Danny's big whiffs in the free agency. You have to give the Cowboys a lot of credit, they may have missed a few in the past but our free agents signings this year have erased the errors in the draft and rival those made by Carolina a couple of years ago when they got Delhomme and company. Does anybody think that Stephen Jones may be a guy behind the scenes that has made the old man a better owner. He sure sounds good on tv like he really gets it...

Greg Ellis would be a great babysitter to raise my kids. But he doesn't have a killer instinct.

What have we accomplished with him over the past 8 years???

Props to Greg Ellis, but we could have done a TON better!!!

Ellis isn't a stud, but now he can be what he is a solid player that will make the occasional play.

It was also Ellis who put the huge heat on Brees on the game ending INT

Ellis had a very solid game, as usual..might be the most underrated player in the NFL

I have a hard time respecting an NFL Defensive End who backs up as Drew Brees comes out to block him.

Yeah, everyone gave him crap about it at the bar I went to. But Greg was doing his job, and trying to get outside containment.

Ellis was going exactly what he needed to do -- this guy is always in his lane, always playing exactly where he should -- in basketball they would call this playing "team defense" rather than man on man. Ware blew that play - Ellis got his blocker out of the way so that the LB could tackle the runner... and the Ware was stuck inside.

Fans may see this as "embarrassing" but Gregg constantly gives himself up for the good of the defense - Fans need to learn to appreciate the guy. He's not going to freelance. If every player on the team played their role as well as Ellis we'd have one of the better D's in the league.

not really...the list of players taken after Ellis is pretty ordinary...other than Moss (who is a team cancer) there really wasnt much to pick from...

If you mean that he isn't a selfish chest thumping thug who is so interested in making individual plays that he hangs his teammates out to dry by ignoring his assignments, then I agree.

If Greg had lowered the boom on Brees the ref would have thrown a flag- no matter that he did not have the ball and was trying to block. You can hit them as hard as you want in the pocket as long as you do not use your helmet and stay away fromthe head. But you hit them anywhere else and the ref will find a reason to throw a flag.

Greg had a better than average game and he was a factor at the end of the game. My only gripe is that he should have put the hurt to Brees when he was trying block him. I still can't believe he let him off of the hook.
