Ehh Gilmore is still better in coverage than Anthony Brown. But he is 33 years old. And at the same time he's going to make plays like that game ending INT.

Sounds like our idea is instead of playing Micah at LB with LVE at we're just going to play Bell there more often than not. And you know what I don't hate that he's going to get more opportunities. And he plays fast and explosive at LB so I'm for it for now. We still need a long term Vander Esch replacement. Bell is built more like Overshown.

Agree about Gilmore. He can’t shut down receivers like he used to, because he has lost speed with age.

But he still makes plays and takes advantage when a QB makes a mistake. That is still a very valuable skill to have.

Bell has done nothing but make plays anytime he is on the field.

I know is small for LB. But he just is a playmaker and plays physical as hell.

Love him.
They have him listed at 6'3" 205lbs, bean pole but plays a lot bigger. Love his aggressive play

  1. Markquese Bell proved tonight that he can hold his own at linebacker. Whether it was filling Austin Ekeler running lanes, holding down the middle of the field in coverage, or accounting for Ekeler out of the backfield on passing plays, Markquese Bell filled in for Leighton Vander Esch on Monday night and proved that he can hold his own defensively. His size doesn't make him a permanent solution – and we saw that whenever he was rotated out with Micah Parsons at linebacker – but when he is fresh and can step on the field, he can be a reliable option.
  2. DaRon Bland is the defense's safety net in more than one way. Having DaRon Bland in the building has proven to be invaluable since his arrival in 2022 after filling in for an injured Jourdan Lewis last season and now filling in for Trevon Diggs in 2023. But his impact continues to expand bounds as we see with each game he plays in. On Monday, Bland was shutdown on the boundary, and while Keenan Allen continued to find success out of the slot throughout the night, he was stifled when lined up with Bland. Trust continues to build with the young gun in the secondary.

The kid was everywhere last night. I'm hoping he'll be more consistent, some games he's our best defender, then other games, you can't tell where he is. Hats off to him, keep playing hard. Please give your thoughts. He surely gets a game ball

He, osa, and bland really gave this team a chance the whole game

And dlaw too
Swear the double move is Blands weakness. I want to say hes been toasted on that move a few times for TD's last year and this year.

Needs to clean it up.

yeah hes been caught like that a lot, his coverage skills arent amazing, he got beat bad a few times last year too.
Reminds me of diggs in his crazy year, more of a ballhawk than shutdown corner, but still very good and only in hsi 2nd year, hell grow hopefully like Diggs under Al Harris

He was good and made a helluva open field tackle at the goalline. Unlike Gilmore who got juked out of his jock by Herbert. Gilmore was extremely overrated by this FO
Anyone think they reduce Gilmore's role after the bye? Maybe play Israel M?

I’m trying to figure out why he hasn’t played more. Last year against Tampa he was awesome as well.

Yeah, guy has great instincts. I'm glad we kept him over his former teammate.

Gilmore closed out the game with a pick. Not sure what else you want. He never was going to be Dieon.
Well, quite frankly I want better coverage for the other 59 minutes.

I don't question his savy to make a play like the pick but surely you see him getting worked pretty good when he has to react & run.

This just in. The guy who sealed the game for us last night is extremely overrated.
This just in, Gilmore was beat all night one on one by an average receiver. Props to the guy for the int though on that play. 1 play out of 1000 surely makes up for it.
