LOS ANGELES - The wife of the city's top prosecutor has an outstanding arrest warrant for failing to appear in court nine years ago on charges of driving without insurance, with a suspended license and in an unregistered car.

City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo got Paris Hilton jailed for violating probation for driving with a suspended license, then condemned her early release. Now, he says he's embarrassed about the outstanding bench warrant for his wife, Michelle, the Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday.

Rocky Delgadillo said he didn't know about it until this week and has urged his wife to remedy the situation.

"My wife is embarrassed about this, and I am embarrassed as well," he said.

The couple also has been chronically late in paying fines for at least five parking tickets in the last three years, the newspaper reported. One violation for parking in a red zone in December 2006 was not paid until the newspaper inquired about the tickets last month, by which time the $70 infraction had become a $174 fine with penalties.

A spokesman for Delgadillo said the city attorney's wife was responsible for all the parking tickets and delinquent payments.

The new developments were the latest driving-related issues to dog Delgadillo and his wife.

On Monday, Delgadillo apologized for keeping quiet about a 2004 accident in which his wife crashed his city-issued vehicle while driving on a suspended license. Delgadillo said he was reimbursing the city for the $1,222 repair.

The prosecutor has said Michelle Delgadillo's offenses are not comparable to those of Hilton, who is serving a 45-day sentence for violating her probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case.

In the latest disclosure, Michelle Delgadillo said she was "very embarrassed" and was working to resolve the arrest warrant issue as soon as possible.

"I will do whatever the court instructs me to do. I apologize for any embarrassment this has caused my husband and family," she said in a statement to the newspaper. "It is completely my mistake."

Michelle Delgadillo was cited by a California Highway Patrol officer on Aug. 1, 1998, in Santa Monica for allegedly driving with an expired Montana driver's license, the Times reported, citing court documents.

The citation — issued two weeks before she married Delgadillo and written under her maiden name, Namen — said the tan BMW 325 she was driving had expired tags and she had no proof of insurance.

The Santa Monica city attorney's office filed a three-count criminal case. When she did not appear in court a month later for her arraignment, a judge issued a $2,000 bench warrant, according to the newspaper.

The warrant remains active, according to officials with the Santa Monica city attorney's office.

Ritchie's going to be headed to jail pretty soon too, I'd bet. She has multiple DUIs and was most recently caught driving the wrong way down a road while high as a kite. I think her trial's next month.

I love stories like this. The prosecutor is saying his wife's crimes are not as bad as hiltons. Total BS. he didnt know she was driving without a license, so why did he cover up the accident she had in his car, and why is she driving without propper registration and insurance, because she cant get those items under the current circumstances. I would bet anything her reason for driving on suspended license and unregustered car from 9 years ago is for DUI, probably multiple ones, that is the only thing that makes it hard to get your license and insurance reinstated.

I have a friend that had 2 DUI's within a year about 6-7 years ago, he ditched court to go on vacation with his girlfriend, then said the court never called him back for a rescheduled date, LOL, dont knwo what he thought, but they issued a bench warant for him and he got picked up 3 years later and slamed in the pokey for a week.

He got set up with probation officer, said he tried to contact the guy for an appointment and the guy didnt return his call. 2 months later i asked him if he was resolving the situation and he said he never got a call back, now there is another warrant out for him. I keep telling him to go downtown and resolve this, it is going on 2 years now since the second warrant, i dont know what he is thinking. He is so afraid of going to jail again that he wont go, he is renting a room, working a cash job as a bartender and has no bills in his name so he is basically underground. he got rid of his car and walks or takes the bus, so it is unlikely that he will get arrested or picked up for anything. I doubt a bounty hunter will come after him in philly because his crime is really small potatos compared with what most of the warrants are issued for. I wonder of he thinks the statute of limitations will run out on this, but he can never get a drivers license until he sreves out his suspension and probabtion, never get a visa or passport so he is basically stuck in a world where he can not really travel outside of his daily routine without risking geting caught.

I gotta agree. IMO a bench warrant is every bit as bad as a probation violation. On top of that she wrecked hsi citty issued car? If I am the city manager, he no longer would have a city issued car. She was not arrested for that despite 9 years with a suspened Montana License while living in California, and she avoids paying fines?

I'm sorry, give her 45 days too. I'm no fan of Paris Hilton by any wild stretch but I feel this is worse than what she did. He's the friggin' city prosecutor and from where I sit it looks like he thinks he and his family are above the law. Crooked cops and politicians are worse to me than a spoiled brat heiress.

Sadly, I've been following this case far too closely, and the Hilton's have been complaining for weeks now about this double standard when it comes to the prosecutor's wife. This story has been out there for a while, and to say that he didn't realize it is absurd.

What, did he think the billionaire Hiltons were just going to let it go?
