So you're telling me that at some point someone important within the Cowboys management/coaching staff has said that Kyle Wilber will be a starting linebacker next year? Because I'd love to hear/read that.

But seriously though, I'm baffled by the idea of wanting Kyle Wilber to start at linebacker. At what point has he done anything in his entire football career to warrant that? Honestly, what positives traits does he bring to the table as a linebacker? I'd love to know.

I've thought Wilber was a waste of a pick from the get go, but he actually made a number of plays--especially against the run--in his time as a LB this last season. I think they finally found is position and he's a capable NFL starter in that spot, but that's probably the high end of what he'll amount to. Perhaps he gets better with an offseason and full camp in the position, but I don't expect him to be more than capable. Still, you're missing something if you didn't see him making plays at the end of the season.

I saw him tackle people that were in front of him. He still has extremely limited range and mobility. You honestly don't believe hes going to be targeted and exposed? He's just a slow LB.

In a perfect world where we could substitute him out of situations and he only plays the run id be fine with him. But having Kyle Wilber on the field against Chip Kelly or any hurry up offense scares the crap out of me if he can't get off of the field. Coverage, and just space in general, is Wilber's worst nightmare.

You know, I said above, I wasn't ever very impressed by him previously. But at SLB, he was splitting blocks and making big plays in the running game, and he appeared to be decent in coverage. I don't remember the specific games, but he had goal line fumble recovery in one game, and a couple of key stops in a few others. As I said, I moved him from 'bust' to 'possible starter' there on the strong side. At the very least, he's a capable replacement player when Durant goes out.

Yeah I have no problems with Wilber getting some playing time, especially in short yardage situations. He does set the edge well and is solid vs the run. This entire argument started based on the fact that the OP apparently has Wilber penciled in as the starter at SLB already with no questions asked. If Wilber is used in certain packages that utilize his strengths and as a guy to keep the starter fresh I will have 0 complaints. But there's still no way I want Kyle Wilber any more than 5 yards past the line of scrimmage in coverage. which means he is just a special teams guy/part time player.

Wilber isnt a polished product, but his ability to cover TEs last yr is what got him noticed against the bears and his tackling.

what is there to like in our safeties? Church is good in run support but all three are very poor in coverage, you really think they will magically become better cover guys next season if we draft a couple of Dlinemen?

Yes, yes, and yes! Think back to the Giants last two Superbowl. They had a great DL and terrible secondary. The Cowboys would have been in the playoffs had Romo had time to throw the ball. I still have nightmares!

No team should ever want to see what Jeff Heath could do. We've already seen that, its trash.

I really feel like there are some high school teams in Texas that he wouldnt start for. If most of the DT/DE prospects are gone, you grab Pryor or Clinton-Dix.
