Proving Ground: Travis Bright

July, 16, 2010 Jul 1612:10PM CTEmail Print Comments By Tim MacMahonLast in a 10-part series focusing on young non-starters who have a lot to prove during training camp (series):

Travis Bright is the best bet to make the jump from the practice squad to the 53-man roster.

The key is whether Bright can prove that he can play center.

It's a position that the 6-foot-5, 320-pound Bright, a guard who went undrafted out of BYU, had never played before this offseason. He worked on his snapping for weeks before OTAs and minicamps and didn't botch any snaps during those workouts.

We'll see how Bright, a physical specimen who can bench press more than 500 pounds, fares at center when there is contact involved.

Offensive line coach Hudson Houck raves about Bright's work ethic, intelligence and attention to detail. If he shows that he's versatile enough to play the three interior line positions, Bright could become a valuable backup.Share4

go get them Bright, push the dog out of gurode!

I'm pulling for this guy. We need some of the young guys to step up and solidify our line for years to go.

yeah but if he pushes gurode, where gurode realizes he might not have a job at the end of the year, unless gurode works hard, studies film, stays in shape and not overweight, will make gurode a better player

He sounds like a real beast and you could be right. We need to hit on another OL besides Free.

As a guard his weakness was pulling in space, center seems to be the ideal position for him. I'm rooting for him to make the final 53 this year, but if he can back up three OL positions, he'll be on the 2011 squad.

It still amazes me that no one, especially the Skins with all their OL problems, did not claim him off the practice squad last year.
