I know the Bears are cheap, but man if they let him go they should just move to Arizona with the Cardinals.

i'm in chicago - the given assumption is that briggs will be movin' on - unless the bears franchise him - most think it's a given that that will not happen - for sum reason, the bears refuse to franchise - costs too much coin....

briggs will be a fa

Do we not have enough LB's already? Is A. Thomas from the Ravens available? Isn't he like a DE that could be had in FA?

Briggs is a great 4-3 LB. Unless a new staff is brought in and the 4-3 reimplemented, he'd be a huge waste.

If they stay with the 3-4, FA dollars should be spent on Thomas, moving Carpenter inside.

We already have two No.1 picks and two highly-paid LBs on the roster with another No.2 pick backing up. I am not sure we really need to overpay another LB.

I would rather spend some money on OL/DL/Secondary.

Is that like saying you have Joey Harrington and Duante Culpepper so you have plenty of QB's and plenty of money tied up in QB's thus you're all set? ;)

Over the next 2 years between Ayodele, Carpetner, Ware, Burnett, and James we have about $5-6 MM in base salaries per year tied up in linebackers.

We pay one of our receviers that much per year. To say we have too much money tied up in linebackers is ridiculous.

Cowboys needs pass-rushers. I say trade Al Singleton for a 5th or 6th round draft choice and sign Lance Briggs or Thomas.

Who ever is the better pass-rushing linebacker I say take em. Get Bill Cowher in here to perfect our 3-4 defense with Dick Labeau. Or just change back to 4-3 and get Jimmy Johnson.

Al is a free agent. No one would give up a draft pick for him anyway.

I didnt say we had too much, I said we had "plenty" ...also consider we invested a 1st in Ware, 1st in Carpenter, 2nd in Burnett, 4th in James and significant $$$ in Ayodele, and we have put alot of dough there...that doesnt even count Ellis, who we dont know the status of for sure

again...its time for coaches to work with and develop what we have...you cant sign a freaking allstar at every position...besides, if nothign changes in the scheme, it doesnt matter what players you put out there...the results are always gonna be the same

The point of your post was that we had too much money invested in the linebackers. Whether you word it as "plenty" or "too much" is irrelevant. We don't have "plenty" of money attached there if we're not getting the results we want.

Oh, and getting someone to pass-rush opposite Ware and getting Bradie James off the field (being replaced by Carpenter) wouldn't help this defense? As if!

If you don't believe the first part go back and watch this defense with Greg Ellis at LOLB. It's a complete 180.

You can birng Uhrlacher and Merriman in here, they will be nothing more than average with this defensive coaching.

I think we have the talent on this team already, we need to get some fresh coaching ideas.

If you think those guys would be nothing more than average it must mean you think the guys we have aside from Ware that dont make plays as it stands are way below average then. Because theres no question those guys are better individual players than the guys we trot out there like Singleton, Ayodele, James etc.

So how would coaching do anything more than bring to bring our guys up from well below average, to simply average? ;)

Yeah, the "anyone would be average in this scheme" meme is tired.

Ware isn't average in this scheme. Greg Ellis as a 3-4 OLB didn't look average in this scheme. Newman isn't average in this scheme. Bobby Carpenter didn't look average Saturday in this scheme.

Bradie James? He looks average. Al Singleton? He looks average. Why? Because they're average players.

Well we were talking about this the other day as it pertains to
"scheme" vs. playmaking. Ok if a less aggressive scheme owes to say less pressure on the QB for example, that probably owe to less sacks, hurries and even resulting Int's.. but where the other things that make up playmaking even in that type scheme.

Wheres the batted balls, tackles for loss, forced fumbles etc. Things that can happen on every play whether you're hell bent on getting to a QB on passing plays or not.
