I wonder if Dallas drafts him instead of Switzer, had the Eagles not snatched him just prior to our pick.

Just In Time

Not long after the Cowboys saw one of their top players get picked right before them, they were able to do the same to the Panthers in the sixth round.

Jerry Jones and his crew picked the exact right spot to trade into the sixth round to get Woods.

“We were told a little bit later that the very next team was going to take him,” Jones said, referring to Carolina. “We called (the Jets) when they were on the clock and made that deal. It worked out well.”

The Cowboys traded next year’s fifth-round pick to land the sixth to get Woods.

Back in the fourth, the Cowboys had a tough debate going on in the War Room between Donnell Pumphrey and Ryan Switzer. But when the Eagles traded up to get Pumphrey, Jones said it was more relief than frustration.

“It was like they made our decision for us,” Jones said. “We had a good debate there. So they helped us out. We really liked both players.”

I have to believe so IMO

but we got that kid from Temple to take Dubbars place

I think Switzer takes that role. What's left of it anyway. The "Dunbar role" never paid off anyway.

But I think we have the Switzer Army Knife and that kid is going to fill quite a few roles for this team.

I expect he'll completely replace Whitehead, knocking him off the roster. Punt returns, possibly kick returns as well, and any jet sweep stuff they run.

I think he'll play in certain pass play packages. Four and five receiver sets with bit he and Beasley in the slot.

And I look at him as insurance for Beasley if he were to get hurt.

This gets a little complicated because they said they were debating between Pumphrey and Switzer and Philly made it easy for them.

But then they said they were debating between Switzer and Woods in the 4th and decided to go with Switzer but were lucky enough to later trade into the 6th and land woods as well.

I got that it was
1a) Switzer or Pumphrey...if both gone, then
1b) Woods

I think he's the choice if both were available. He's an easy replacement for Dunbar. But Switzer is a great "fallback" option given what they were looking for.

I could see him play some RB and returner as of course wideout. Seems to be built right to be able to take some good hits.

Switzer is the better prospect and so glad Jerry took him

He certainly was the better and more complete punt returner. Pumphrey was a lot less experienced doing it only briefly at SD State. He just started working on it in again at the Senior Bowl. The Eagles likely did us a favor if the whole goal with the pick was to get a returner.

Switzer is a better receiver then Pumphrey is a running back. We got the better player

Could fill that role Dunbar had as a pass catcher and give whitehead some competition at what he did on offense.

I think that unless someone gets hurt, Whitehead is done in Dallas. He head his return duties decreased and never developed into a receiver. I think drafting Switzer is a clear upgrade and a sign that the team is looking for better results.

Both Whitehead and Brice Butler should rent, not buy.
