Did they ever establish punt returners and kick returners this off season?

I know they were trying Switzer in a few spots but he was having ham string issues so he has been out for an amount of time.

Seems like they had a few other guys in preseason games that are either not on the roster or on the practice squad now.

Lucky is not here right now.

I have not heard who they have set to do the Punt or Kick returns yet.

Has any one heard or read?

There's a show that is available on Dallascowboys.com where Brad Sham and Jeff Cavanaugh (I think) interviewed both Dez and Switz. From the discussion, it sounds like Switz will be the man for both, but I may have misunderstood. But he will definitely be handling punt return duties.

My guess is that Switzer fields punts at mid field but Beasley will handle the retunrns that are closer to the end zone for this first game.

Whoever is back with him on kick returns is going to be instructed to make sure he downs the ball unless he's out of the end zone when he fields the kick.

Switzer.

He's the 5th receiver. Best way to get him on the field more.

If there is anything that Ryan Switzer excels at on a football field, it's fielding a punt or kick. I don't think it's a matter of having a lot of trust in him, he's just got this and the staff has seen him do it enough to know this is his specialty. Folks should relax and just enjoy watching him do his thing.

its switzer on punts and probably mcfadden on kick returns.

I watched switzer field punts before the oakland game, hopefully playing a little in that building for practice and warmups will help him.

Again,

  • The return duties are still up in the air, but a lot of that depends on the health and rehab of Ryan Switzer. The rookie from UNC has been hobbled by a hamstring for the majority of the preseason. He was picked in the fourth round to help the punt return game and that’s exactly where he’ll be if he’s healthy. If not, Cole Beasley and perhaps Dez Bryant would handle that role. On kickoffs, Garrett said Rod Smith would be the kickoff returner if Switzer isn’t ready by then. Look for both of them to be back on returns with Switzer being the primary returner.

ahh I missed the rod smith thing. Honestly I am assuming smith would be inactive but I guess Alfred Morris will be. When Morris talked to the ticket in camp he wasn't too happy about being inactive last season, he said he didnt understand why and was never told why.

on switzer I listened to him monday on the cowboys hour with dez and brad sham and it sounded like Switzer was fully healthy and ready to go. He said he was so excited about sunday night he couldn't sleep. I think he is going to be active and brown inactive, but if there is any lingering issues or no way to use switzer outside of punt returns then it would make sense. They have shown that they will put brown out there to block so he may be more useful in this game.

It will be interesting who is active i really dont see switzer not being active though.

Until he really learns the offense, it'll be the easiest way to get him on the field. I just want him to hold on to the ball - don't muff it, don't drop it, don't fumble it, don't throw it, don't sit on it.

Hold onto it. Don't turn it over.

That's one reason they drafted him - to be the primary kick returner from day one. Then work on making him a slot receiver.

Putting a lot of trust in him.

I can see some concern, but Switzer was primarily drafted because of his return ability. I'm actually anxious to see Switzer return punts and kicks, instead of last year cringing when Lucky was back there, or falling asleep watching Beasley fair catch everything.
