I don't think you're risking upsetting the locker room, the player...by letting him walk...and potentially risking your job.

Moneyball is a good movie and all, I just think a capable bus driver is a player GMs are proving to stick with in the NFL.

You can claim that you would offer him what you think his worth is, and if he doesn't like it he can walk.

It's the same argument over and over. I don't think you're letting him walk. You're clutching a concept that is smart on paper, but is actually complicated to execute successfully by not upsetting locker room and not going 5 years looking for someone as good as Purdy.

It's just talk. Billy might have taken risk getting rid of big name sluggers who draw in fans...but football is different than baseball...a lot different.

Seems like it's only this site that is pounding the table for it.

Sure, maybe there is a shorter leash for QBs, but nothing drastic that I can tell. Bus drivers are still highly sought after and highly paid.

QBs are just too hard to find to play moneyball with...and I think NFL GMs are proving that.

Sign a 25M vet with warts and draft a guy...hoping the draftee works out?

And if he doesn't, like most...you just rinse and repeat every year, using high picks you could have built team around Brock with?

No one is really providing a plan if the drafted QB stinks, and how long you give the stinker before resetting again by drafting a new QB.

You could potentially be 4 years down the road with a lesser QB than Brock...all because of QB market frustrates you.

You see when your average salary per is 53 million as former Mr Irrelevant ( last player drafted ) it makes keeping other players around problematical and now your weapons are dismantled and you have to shop for new groceries to surround Purdy with .

The cap goes up, though. Teams have accounting tricks at their disposal too.

I think the bottom line is, no one likes watching a team with a total stinker at QB.

All the 25M vets have huge warts that make it hard to watch.

I guess I'm looking from a viewing perspective...You're looking from the financial books perspective.

Maybe it can be easier to pull off if you are emplementing the run to take pressure off of a rookie contract.

But if you're trying to pass 50% of the time, most of these QBs are stinkers.

Running the ball is only way executing this rookie QB contract stuff routinely would make sense, imo.

If you're trying to pass the ball, though...I think bus driver is someone you stick with.

If you run the ball, but then find yourself down by 2 touchdowns late in games, gonna be hard to ask a low paid stinker to pull you out of the mess passing the ball.

Think about how many games you watch and how important it is to move the ball and stop the clock with passing late in games trying to comeback.

They really have no choice. It's akin to price gouging. If you're dying of thirst walking out of a desert, and I have the only 20oz bottle of water within 10 miles, it will cost 100 dollars. Is it worth it? Absolutely not. But what other choice do you have?
 
Treat Dilfer Joe Flacco Mark Rypien Jeff Hostetetler Jaworski Danny White goodness the NFL is littered with “ guys “ who drove the bus stopped up at Quik Trip for Gas & Donuts and had varying degrees of success .

It’s what makes the Prescott contract so baffling little to no success but riches beyond his wildest dreams . And now add Purdy to that list .
 
I’m desperate enough in Dallas to welcome a Joe Milton , good arm big mobile QB . I’ve seen what the QB room in Dallas has delivered lately , change should be embraced not feared .
 
I have no problem with the rookie contract idea if there is a sensible plan in place that dictates how long until you abandon the idea.

There is so much parity in the league, too many games decided by QBs marching the ball down the field and utilizing stopped clocks...something you can't do with a running offense.

A stacked team doesn't win a game late with little time left...a QB does...and it happens all too often, Ron.

It's something you have to accept at some point. Just a rigid approach of "prove you're Michael Jordan at QB during rook contract, or the max we are offering is 13.5% of cap"

None of these GMs actions are agreeing with what this board is pounding the table for.

Do I think teams will start getting stricter about giving out 2nd contracts to obvious average bus drivers? Sure. Purdy and Dak are not average bus drivers...you pay these guys.

GMs want stability at the position, not constant turnover looking for Mahomes.

That NFC West is a tough outfit . I know he has gone to the playoffs and they repeatedly beat Dallas but i want to see further success . People were critical of Jalen Hurts . Hurts had himself a nice SB WIN
 
Ron is ghosting me on my parity assertion and my late game theatrics are done by QBs and not teams with depth assertion.

Why? Hmm

Because I proved QB stability and pay are valid...and, imo, owners and agents agree on the 20 to 22% annual average of cap at signing.

He wants to take advantage of cheap labor instead, when it's the QB who wins close games late with little time left...not a stacked team. And it happens a lot.
