Purdy signs for 5 years at $265 mill

Please explain.
Both players got an extension with 1 year left on their contract. Purdy got 5 years averaging 53M. But his last year is only around 5M. So 265M + 5M is 270M divided by 6. Averages out to 45M over the next 6 years.

Dak's contract was an average of 60M. Since this is his 3rd contract, he had a ton of void money that had to be averaged in. I think 90M. So 240M +90M is 330M over 5 years. Puts him at 66M over the next 5 years.

Fun with numbers to make them something they really are not.
Can’t really compare it that way.

After this year, Purdy will average $53 million.

In 1976 I made $2.30 an hour washing cars at a new car dealership. Before I started college.
I do not figure that into my average page in retirement.

Prove how it is Daks fault.
Another ignorant cop out by fans. And another fan myth.
What do you mean? Do you want me to prove that Dak said he’s pushing the envelope for the QB brotherhood. A simple YouTube search will do that. Do you want me to prove that no QB has come within 5 million APY of his salary. That’s already documented in this thread. What exactly do you want me to prove?

Did Dak say that he owes it to his QB brothers to push the limit of his salary? That’s is a yes. He said it in a press conference at TC.

I mean if you want to find the clip on YouTube and pull it up for you I will. That won’t be hard.

How is 53 mil vs 60 mil “a significantly better deal”?
There may be 10 players on the Cowboys paid more than $7 million per season. Don’t pretend SF didn’t do a good job negotiating the Purdy deal. Signed him for more than 10% less than Dak.

That’s really embarrassing. France and Dak took Jerry to school. Just a reminder of how overpaid Dak is and how bad of a deal Jerry agreed too.

Am I the only person to notice that the QB brotherhood Dak was so concerned about has not followed suit with Dak’s actions.
Just wait to you see his encore with Micah.

But it works exactly how I said it works. Purdy's cap hits will average 45M over the next 6 years. They take the total of his extension plus his final year and structure it anyway they like.

I just went and looked at Dak's cap hits just to verify. I was off by 1M. He averages 65M over the 5 years. It's not fun with numbers. It's what they actually average. It's simple math.

It's not Dak's fault, in our case, it's the owner's fault. Clearly Dak couldn't care less about the cap. But what player does?

Purdy got farther and cost less
The Big and Little Enos show stumbles on
If your spouse went and bought a car for 60K and that car didn’t run as well and is not as good of quality of a car that could have been bought for 53K or 55K. That would be upsetting. I don’t see how anybody would be cool with that.

How far they get rarely determines what they get paid. A lack of alternatives usually does. Our GM is another story. I'm surprised we didn't give up a first for Pickens.

You’re just playing around with numbers to further your agenda. The only numbers that matter are 53 mil vs 60 mil. Not much difference IMO. If you disagree, fine.

I agree. It’s the owners fault for caving. But Dak did not endear himself to the fans when he said that brotherhood line. Also Dak already made 100 million or so. He could have considered the effects of the cap and how his deal is structured. It’s Jerry’s fault but like you said clearly Dak didn’t care about the cap. Dak stated publicly he cared more about players on other teams than our team as it relates to his salary.

I'm not a big Dak fan, but this is going to come across like I'm defending him. I would use a different comparison. Dak lost to Purdy in the quarter mile. Dak was driving a Honda Civic, Purdy a Corvette. You going to blame the driver? Quarterbacks don't play in a vacuum.

I'm pretty sure all QBs do that. That's why any QB you draft will take nothing less than top market value on an extension no matter how good they are. No other position does that.

That’s what happens when it’s 4 years compared to 5 lol
Also, 49ers probably got a discount because Purdy went 6-9 as a starter last year and only threw 20 TDs while throwing 12 ints. The year Dak signed his contract he was coming off a year where he was 12-5 with 36 TDs and 9 ints and got voted #2 in the MVP race. I’m not saying Dak is worth the $60 million or should have even been an MVP candidate. I am just saying Purdy had a bad year last year and doing that in a contract year cost him a little scratch. It seems like our guys always excel in contract years, get the big contract, and then stink it up once they get paid.

But 53 and 60 aren't the real numbers going forward. It's not me that disagrees, I'm just doing the math. Between 2024 and 2028 Dak Averages a cap hit of 65M a year.
