870,000.00 is his salary this year. This is unfair to not only him which is his own fault. It is also unfair to the other teams who are hamstrung by the salary cap cuz they have to pay their qbs 40 million per year. This is why I’m against unions. The collective bargaining agreement does not give him the chance to sit out and demand more. Imagine if the Niners win the sb this year and the next year he gets a career ending injury. He will have nothing and they will owe him nothing. Plus there is no guarantee they will even resign him. Imagine you were the most valuable person at your company but paid the least you would demand more compensation immediately.

He keeps playing like he is he will be resigned to a nice top 5 deal. Don't forget, he will also get a nice chunk of change from endorsements.

They all start here. He'll be making some nice endorsement money soon. Don't feel all that bad for him.

Owners are laughing all the way to the bank. You go organized labor! But in fairness, this situation --- most important position, drafted last, best performer at position stat-wise -- happens once in a blue moon, if any.

I wholeheartedly agree. But $879,000 for six months of work equals nothing? I can't go that far. But he is severely underpaid.

Rookie contracts are garbage. Even worse for a running back who is on a severely limited timespan. The N.F.L. has the weakest union for the most violent sport. Irony in it's truest form.

Owners are laughing all the way to the bank. All the while they foster a crab mentality with a salary cap.

I've been a union member for over 30 years. We cannot compare the NFL union to other unions. It's totally different. Night and day. Lets be serious here. Purdy will be paid big money if he keeps up his play. This is not a union issue. It's a rules issue the league has. The league has a lot of rules for rookie contracts that has nothing to do with the union. With regular union jobs you're getting paid more than you deserve. I am a prime example of that. I get paid 30 dollars an hour to do almost nothing every night at work. I watch you tube all night.

He should sign up for insurance in case of an injury like that. Small amount of money in relative terms.

It's just the way the NFL works. You get a minimum of 3 years at a lower set contract before asking for that big raise. It's not unheard of even in the "normal" world.

Remember, the NFL has a Performance-Based Play Pool where players who outplay their contract get a bonus during the offseason.

Sure, it's not the 40+ million a Top QB should be getting, and it doesn't count against the team's Salary Cap, but it can be a pretty good payday for someone like Purdy.

In any case, if Purdy can avoid weeks like he had against the Browns, he will be paid soon enough. If not, then he will join a long list of "One Year NFL wonders".

Just sayin'

He does have the option of holding out. Zeke did it to us. The collective bargaining agreement has nothing to do with it. If he continues winning in SF this year, they will extend him.

Endorsements is fine but they are not paid by the franchise. So that’s not salary. Who says he will get signed. If they are smart they will when what they can with him than let him go into free agency.

Is it about a rookie contract, or him being a late round pick? Most guys picked in the 7th round aren't getting large contracts. This was true even when there wasn't a rookie cap. Sam Bradford got a huge contract as a first round pick before they changed the rookie cap structure, but I doubt any 7th rounder that year got a huge contract.

He's going to make over 50 million per season easily if he keeps up his play. He'll be a very rich man.

I think Prescott made 40 million on endorsements after his rookie season
