Dak is too young to take a successor, so it would be with the intent to start the pick in 2025. That doesn’t make a whole lot of sense with Lance on the roster, unless you just traded for him to be a career backup.

If you’re drafting a QB round 1, then there’s no benefit to letting Dak play out his deal and leave in FA. You would be trading him now for a haul

You'd get a late day two as a comp pick. Not crazy, but still something. Trading him in this scenario would be ideal, but the NTC complicates it. If he asked for it, I dont think he would waive it just because the Cowboys wanted him too. He might be willing to play out 2024 at 60 million and enter the open market in 2025. He has the power here

The all everything Owner just said his version of all in this year means not drafting a QB.

You think you’d only get a third for Dak? It would be significantly more than that. Watch how ravenous teams are about to be for Cousins

No thats if he played out his contract and signed as a FA. A 3rd is the max you can get for a comp pick. Trading him is possible, but very very complicated. Since he has an NTC, he has all the cards. They would get a good haul if he waived it, but its his call to waive it or not

What a NTC ends up being is the ability to pick the team he goes to. If Dallas walks in and tells him they don’t want him around anymore, he’ll want to leave

No it means they cant trade him unless he waives it. If he doesnt want to waive it, he can play for 60 million this year and enter the free market next year.

They could do that. They could tell him they want to trade him and try to force him into waiving gis NTC. But they wont. They dont do things that way. The most aggressive they will be with him is not offering him a contract. Actually trading him is just fan fantasy

They should make the next starting QB a competitive situation. They should draft a QB with potential, not necessarily the 1st round. In 2025 he should be allowed to compete with Lance for the starting position if Dak leaves.

if they simply anoint a QB without competition then they will be in teh same situation when his contract comes around.
