Just watched this kid carve up Pitt's defense like it was nothing. Final stat line:

25-27, 356 yards, 4 TD's, Rushing TD

And one of those incompletions was a poor call by the official. Replay confirmed it should've been a catch. I know it was against Pitt, but that's still really impressive for a Freshman playing his very first game.

-He was a blue-chip recruit last year, ranked the #1 high school QB in the country. Was named to ESPN's Elite 11. He redshirted last year so he's still a Freshman.

-This kid has all the intangibles: Great leadership, work ethic, high football IQ, etc. Then you add in the physical tools (6-4, 227 lbs) with good athleticism and a rocket arm, and you have the makings of a top 10 draft pick in a couple years.

I know it's only one game, but I'm a big fan of this guy. Scouts are raving about him. He can't turn pro until at least after next season and probably won't until after his Jr year at least which works perfectly cause that's when the Cowboys will likely be searching for Romo's successor (if they haven't already). Would love to see this kid in a Cowboys uniform if he continues to develop and pans out the way it looks like he will. At the very least someone to keep an eye on. He's only 19 years old.

*Should be noted: He's also a great baseball player and was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 15th round of last year's MLB Draft. From what I've read it looks like he's going to pursue football over baseball so it shouldn't be an issue.

Here's his highlights from tonight:

And his highlights from FSU's Spring Game (ignore the cheesiness):

He torched them last night. To be fair, he's going to struggle some, but he's someone that I would expect to see play on Sundays due to his skillset.

I was very impressed with the youngster. first outing and did not look intemidated at all. It will be interesting to watch him through out the season vs other top teams.

Great debut, reminds me so far of Byron Leftwich in the pocket. Those Florida schools have some potentially nice QBs with Winston, Miami's Stephen Morris, and UCF's Blake Bortles.

I don't see a lot of Leftwich in him. Leftwich had a really long release, this kid has a different throwing motion all together. Maybe a little more like Doug Williams at Garmbling thou. I kinda see some similarities there for sure.

Winston was on fire during this game. I'm not sure i've ever seen a Freshman come in and look that good his first game. And I know Manziel was also Reshirt Freshman last year, but Winston's arm is light years better than Johnny Football.

I believe we are looking at a potential #1 overall pick, whenever he declares. Remember the last 2 Florida State QB's? E.J. Manuel and Christian Ponder. Both were high 1st round picks. This kid is going to be better than both of those guys.

I kinda saw a young Leftwich in him. But I would compare him to Cam Newton.

Winston's stat line tonight vs Nevada:

15-17, 214 yards. 2 TD's, Rushing TD, 1 INT

He was pulled at the end of the 3rd quarter cause it was a blow out. Another solid night for the Frosh.

Heisman right here folks, i'm calling it now.

This year? Nah. His #'s already aren't good enough through the 1st 2 games. Unless FSU goes undefeated and a bunch of guys struggle. But Winston for Heisman next year? Very real possibility.

Are you sure his stats are not good enough?

Jameis Winston through 2 games:
40-45 , 570 yards passing, 6 TDs, 1 int, 35 rushing yards, 2 rushing TDs

Johnny Manziel through 2 games last year (Heisman):
43-66, 467 yards passing, 4 TDS, 0 int, 200 yards rushing, 3 rushing TDs

I would say Winston's stats are very similar to Manziel's through their first 2 games. Johnny had more rushing yards, but Winston's completion % is way ahead at 88% to 65%.

The only way he'll win is if FSU goes to the championship game. This year's Heisman field might be one of the heaviest in a long time...particularly because it's very QB-heavy and many of those QBs are on teams that should be in the mix for the championship. Tajh Boyd, Teddy Bridgewater, Marcus Mariota, and either McCarron/Mettenberger will be in the mix. Manziel will also put up some stats to keep him in some consideration too

I agree on both points.

FSU would have to be a top 5 team for Winston to win the Heisman. We cant say they have to go to the Championship game, because Manziel didnt last year and he won. But him beating Alabama won him the majority of his votes.

Very strong field this year. Great QB play so far.

Manziel didn't win the Heisman last year based on his first 2 games. He won it based on his performance against Alabama and a few other big stat games. Manziel's first start came against a good Florida defense. I like what I see from this young man, Winston, but he hasn't faced a good defense yet.

What I'm saying is that THIS year his stats are way behind Bridgewater, Manziel, and Mariota to this point. I just don't see those 3 letting up anytime soon either, and Oregon and Louisville likely aren't losing more than 1 game. Extremely unlikely for Winston to win the Heisman.

after the Manziel thing I doubt that the Heisman people will want to give it to another freshman anytime soon.

Winston does look like a real prospect.

And if he does 3 years that is just about right for us to be looking for a successor to romo.

Quick update: Winston's stats against a poor Bethune-Cookman team yesterday:

10-19, 148 yards, 2 TD's, 11 yards rushing

Not his best outing, but Jimbo Fisher even acknowledged that their receivers dropped 4 passes, including one that would'e been a TD. But he didn't play the last quarter and a half either. Bethune's coach said he thinks Winston is a future Heisman Trophy winner and one of the top 3 QB's in the country.

Here's one of his TD throws:

So far So Good with Winston and he is a great player with huge upside, But I have to see what he does against a defense with a pulse first before I crown him. Make no mistakes about it, Kid was a good one in high school and had the option of going to the pros (baseball) straight from highschool.

With that said I would love for Jerry to get him but that would mean Dallas would suck and miss the playoffs because Winston isn't going to get out of the first 8 picks.

Another week, another highlight for Jameis Winston. Liking this kid the more and more I see him play. Stat line against Boston College:

17-27, 330 yards, 4 TDs, 1 INT, 67 yards rushing
