Aven8 and a couple others mentioned him in another thread.

Sign me up.. Like a Brett Favre on steroids.

1 problem though is he needs to be a bit more mindful of protecting the football. He is going to have some ups and downs like Romo did early on I'd imagine.

The issues with Mahomes’ game centers around his mechanics and mental aspect of the game. He has a tendency to fall off his throws rather than stepping towards his target. His shoulder often flies open which hurts his accuracy.

He also drops his arm angle to his side from time to time. His lack of footwork consistency makes it difficult for him to repeat his motion and deliver an accurate football.

Mahomes also needs to work on his deep ball accuracy and ability to get proper loft on his throws. His inability accurately attack the deep part of the field will be a concern as he goes through the draft process.

A lot of this is due to the fact he plays in Texas Tech’s spread attack. This system also limits his opportunities to stand in the pocket and go through his progressions. Mahomes is too quick to move off his spot and vacate the pocket.

Why not bring in Mahomes, more options the better. You can teach him pro game, improve his mechanics and footwork, just like every other back up QB on this roster, but you can't teach that ability to extend plays or a scorer's mentality.

It's just too bad he can't bring Jakeem Grant with him. Gotta give it to Texas Tech, they have speed everywhere.

One thing I like to do is take a look at how the kid played in tough games in 2015. The three best defenses he faced were LSU, OU and WVU (statistically).

He was just OK against LSU with 4 TDs but 50% completion and a QBR of 45.

He was dreadful against OU with 4 interceptions and a QB of 25.

He was OK against WVU with a QB of 66 but did have 3 TDs.

I think there will be a few QBs that opt out that will end up higher on the draft board than this guy.

I watch Mahomes play a couple of games. Love the athleticism, and arm strength. This kid could potentially be one of the top college QBs if he keeps progressing.

He was also running for his life in those games. His OL could only block for a half second before he had to ad lib and extend the play.

I really love this upcoming 2017 QB class. I would take any of the top 7 or 8 prospects.

6. Patrick Mahomes II, junior, Texas Tech: The Big 12's 2015 leader in attempts, passing yards, touchdowns and interceptions has Johnny Manziel's former offensive coordinator as his coach (Kliff Kingsbury). That's a good thing, by the way. We know the kid can throw. His dad played 11 years in the majors. Son could approach 5,000 passing yards in 2016.

Never a bad thing to have a parent who was a pro athlete.

It's a long ways away but Mahomes is my favorite QB so far.

The problem is that unless we totally crash and burn (obviously a Romo injury again), we are going to be picking in the 25 range.

So if Mahomes turns into a stud QB this year, we will have no shot at him unless we trade our entire draft and then some.

Same. I think we will be able to get a QB in the mid or late 1st this year. wont have to sell the farm like the Rams or Egals did this year for a good prospect to sit and learn.

He looks like he's got some skills BUT beware of the Big 12 QB...historically

Please. This dude has a cannon and can throw from any angle. He's smart as hell also. Just has the it factor. He also is always looking to throw. He is going to be a star.

oh ok I take your word on that - lol

but I rather have

Brad Kaaya, junior, Miami: In two seasons, the 6-foot-4 Cali kid has thrown for 6,500 yards and 42 touchdowns. New coach Mark Richt, a quarterback specialist, can only help his game. As Miami continues to teeter (at times), Kaaya has been a tower of strength. He grew up 15 minutes from UCLA. He's maturing into a future NFL quarterback 3,000 miles away in Coral Gables.

This year's draft class was average at best. It's a good time to be a decent QB. I mean, Goff and Wentz went #1 and #2? They resemble more like Blaine Gabbert and Jake Locker types. No sure-fire thing.

Means nothing. By next year, there will be some QB ranked super high, all because he stands 6'5 240 in the underwear contest. Even if he sucks. And some team will reach for him in round 1.

I agree w/them too

There's multiple problems with that. 1st, we have to hope the team at the top doesn't need a QB. 2nd and just as important is a team at the top of the draft is not going to want to srop down to the 20s. If they want to bail there will be plenty of teams picking higher than mid 20s looking to trade up. Just look at the responses in the trade back with Denver threads. Even the biggest proponents for a trade down didn't want to go that far down. This year was the easiest AND cheapest time to make the move. It was a squandered opportunity.

We either need a subpar year to be in trade up range, or just wait for Romo to leave, tank and address it then.
