QB Peyton Manning wants to become unrestricted free agent immediately

When it comes to NFL big names, no one wields more cachet than Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning. With the owners and players about to strike a deal for a new collective bargaining agreement, Manning, a named plaintiff in the lawsuit against the league, is reportedly making a power play.
According to a report from the Boston Globe, and later confirmed by CBSSports.com, Manning is looking to hit the open market when the lawsuit is settled...

 Fire up Commanders one Danny! - aye, and you boys thought I was joking :D

If you think that Indy is letting him out of there then you really are delusional. lol

There is ZERO shot that Danny, or any other owner that isn't the owner of the Colts, will be signing Peyton Manning.

We'd take him, and if not him, we could always settle for Drew Brees - I have no problem with that :)

I'm not so sure he'd come to Ashburn in shape (now that's another story). Can you picture Manning going through one of those rigorous conditioning tests?
There's also the possibility that he's not a fit for Kyles system...

Think he'd wear a wrist band?

You are beyond delusional if you think either of those QB's will sign anywhere but INDY or N.O.

You can take your pick from Tarvaris Jackson, Matt Hasselbeck, Kevin Kolb though.

I like you already.

:( I'm just sayin' one can dream right? Give me Mcnabb or Beck over that bunch (yeah, it's that bad of a free agent QB pool). I'd take a flyer on Vince Young or Marc Bulger before any of those you listed.
Though, there are rumours TJ could be a possibility for competition - or lack-their-of.

On a serious note, this "could" hold the new deal up.

Jackson would add some athleticism for sure. Who knows if he has any real talent or not. Minnesota isn't exactly a QB friendly offense over the last 6-7 years (minus the one Favre year).

Bulger is done. Vince is def the best option. Hasselbeck can still play but he is old and injury prone. He'd be a stop gap.

I think you guys really messed up by not taking one high in the draft.

I disagree. They made the right move not getting the guys in this years draft at the high end.

Next years crop is a much better one, IMO.

Now that said I'd have loved it if they'd traded their future to move up and get Newton, who I believe is going to be an absolute failure at the pro level, but I definately think the Skins made the right move not going for those guys.

I disagree too.

They took a more patient approach for once.

They aren't a "quarterback away" from being contenders - hell, they are a qb,rb WR, WR, WR, WR:))) OG, OT, C, CB, ILB, OLB NT, DE, P, K, DC, Owner - OK, you get the point - away from being a contender..

They traded back, got a lot of picks, and though they won't admit it, they are rebuilding (wish they would come out and say that - maybe hoping like me that a Manning is available.
Rebuilding everything else, while they have a cheap option at QB - in Beck. Give him a chance, see what he can do. If he's your guy, you might not have to draft a QB so high, and if he isn't, you're likely to be in great position next year to get one.

I know, I know, there have been Joe Flaccos, Matt Ryans, and Mark Sanchez's that succeeded in the NFL early on, but look at what they had around them, and the situations they were in.

A rookie QB in DC right now, is going to end up like Patrick Ramsey or Mathew Stafford...

Bingo.

Couldn't agree more.

Now I'm a huge Ryan fan, loved the guy in college, and I felt he was going to be a good pro regardless. But he's definately been helped by being in a situation, offensively, that was very sound around him. Having the type of running game he did, already in place, helps tremendously.

I have a gut feeling this is one area that the Commanders will be significantly improved next year, love the No Name Backfield: Torain, Helu, Williams...

I'm a Husker fan so I'm a big fan of Helu. I hate that you guys got him. lol

I had to laugh at this description of Helu by Matt Williamson at ESPN:

I am not a fan, but I am very much a fan of the player/team fit. That is what Helu is: Straight line guy who sticks his foot in the ground and gets downhill. And he has very good speed. Not "Special" though.

One: How many special players are taken in the 5th round?
Two: How many of Shanahan's backs were special coming out of the draft? Terrell Davis was a 6th round pick...
Three: He says he likes the player/fit, but then seeingly goes out of his way to deride Helu. Maybe I am being a bit touchy (...and I really dislike Williamson)

I think Helu is a solid pick. Now, again, I'm a Husker fan so that could just be bias on my part but the kid made plays.

He runs harder, at times, than people give him credit for as well. Who knows if he'll be special (then again you can say that about pretty much any pick at any point, especially the 5th) but I think he's going to be a real solid choice.

Of our 12 picks this year -- he is tied at #2 with Hankerson, behind Kerrigan.

Bill Polian: "Ok, you want to walk Peyton, go right ahead...we have no problem starting Curtis Painter this year. Wait, who is Curtis Painter? Um, hey Peyton, buddy, do you think we could talk?"
