I thought it would be fun to look at QB's wonderlic scores to see how some of these guys are doing in the NFL. I thought there might be a coorelation between score and performance (ability to read and adjust to defenses). Some of the scores were surprising.

The Wonderlic is an exam comprised of 50 questions. Players have 12 minutes to complete the test. The average score (out of 50) is a 21.

Some sample scores of other players include: Drew Bledsoe - 37; Steve Young - 33; John Elway - 30; Dan Marino - 16; Donovan McNabb -14; Vince Young 6.

Name..............Score
-------------- ---------------
2005 -
Alex Smith.............40
Aaron Rogers..........39
Jason Campbell........14, 27
Derek Andersen........15, 23

2004 -
Eli Manning..............39
Philip Rivers..............30
Matt Schaub............30
Ben Rothlisberger.......25

2003 -
Drew Henson.............42
Tony Romo................30
Rex Grossman.............29
Chris Simms................22

2002 -
Joey Harrington.............32
Patrick Ramsey.............32
Josh McCown................30
David Carr.....................24
Antwaan Randle El...........17
David Garrard..................14

So, how would you do...here is a link to the test so you can find out.

The issue here is that the Wonderlic is a very general measure of intelligence -- it isn't a great measure but it is good for what it is -- something that only takes a few minutes (most intelligence tests take far longer). No one with a background in the test would suggest that even a 7 or 8 point difference was meaningful. It is a gross measure.

Really what folks need to look at here are the red flag guys -- people who score really low. Those are the guys who MIGHT have a problem adjusting to the complexities of the NFL game.

People who place too much weight on the measure are stupid. I'm sure we'll here, well Romo got a 30 and he's better than Alex Smith. Dumb claim. Neither fall in the red flag territory. The measure isn't used to say "this guys is smarter than this one."

People who place too little weight on the measure... also stupid. E.g. some will come into this thread and say "Haahahaha Drew Henson, he sucked" without taking into account the hole he dug himself by not playing enough college ball and being out of the game for a few years.

I agree, but I thought it would be fun to look at...just trying to have a little fun while nothing is going on...

And how much does the coaching influence success or failure....anyway, just having some fun....

So Campbell and Anderson had to take it twice? :laugh2:

I bet both of them had to study for their blood test, too!!!

We should do more disguising of defenses against the skins and the egals. Those are some sharp QB's coach.

That's not fair!!!

How come McPuke did not get to take the test again?

:laugh2: Those little Commanders are a sneaky bunch...

Yeah, and some think he cheated on the second test because he improved so much.... McPuke probably didn't want to risk scoring any lower.

How do you score it? I took it (timed 5 min.) but it doesn't say how to score it.

If 50 is the highest you can make (it is) and the test is 15 questions, then that makes each correct question worth roughly 3.33 points.

I don't know if that is correct though.

Let's see.

You scored none correct, so your score is ZERO.

If you don't know how to score it...I suggest you DON'T take it!

I missed 1 question: the one about words and font size. I think read it wrong :(

This was just a sample test, but your logic sounds good to me. I could do very well on the Wonderlic, but my 40 time and bench probably wouldn't excite anyone.

My problem is that my 40 time and my wonderlic would probably be about the same... about 10 :D

If each question is worth 3.33 points then you scored a 33, which would be good.

I don't think that's how it's scored though.

There are other sites if you "goggle" the Wonderlic Test that will score it automatically for you...

The test is really just a brain teaser kind of test and the best way to test it is do all the easiest questions first as fast as you can then go back to the hard ones and spend the remaining time on those...

But, just because you MIGHT be smart...does not mean you have COMMON sense!
