the offense was there too...which points to a problem...the coaching sucked and cost us a lot of games....

There actually some truth here.......many fans forget or ignore Garrett's negative impact. No secret he had real issues against teams with winning records. For some reason, it never mentions/factored by Dak critics why he hasn't had more success. Hell, it hurt Romo too....

Garrett is not the worst head coach in the league. He has his strengths, largely having a heavy hand in building a competent roster. But a top coach? If that feels like a stretch it’s because it is. Head coaches are going to be judged by their ability to win big games, despite the malaise Sunday’s defeat to the winless Jets has put fans in.

Defining what’s a big game is subjective, but for the purposes of this piece, beating teams with a winning record would be a good place to start. Upon examination, Garrett is not passing the test.

Using Pro Football Reference’s Team Finder to suss out each active head coach’s record against winning teams at season’s end in either the regular season or playoffs reveals a cold, hard fact. Against good teams, Garrett has been mediocre at best.

Here’s a list of all active coaches with at least one year of experience through the end of the last complete season, 2018.

Team Coach Years Active Record vs
Winning Teams Win %
New England Patriots Bill Belichick 2000-2019 107-63 0.629
Los Angeles Rams Sean McVay 2017-2019 14-10 0.583
Chicago Bears Matt Nagy 2018-2019 5-4 0.556
Indianapolis Colts Frank Reich 2018-2019 6-5 0.545
Pittsburgh Steelers Mike Tomlin 2007-2019 51-46 0.526
Seattle Seahawks Pete Carroll 2010-2019 38-38 0.500

I blame garrett for craapy games that pulled losses from jaws of victory. difference between good coaches and average ones is ability to make the right calls during the game and he never had that....I am not going to criticize the scheme (separate discussion), but in 2019 he cost us the saints , Jets , patriots , eagles , Minn games in 2018 texans game, Commanders game and the rams game were all direct result of his ineptitude and lack of adjustments...he never put the team in position to succeed, in fact it was often we don despite him.....

Yep.

Side note, I wish playoffs counted cause those would probably knock Mahomes down a peg. Especially his 2 super bowls, neither of which were a good showing, the first time he got lucky and the last time he was downright awful.

dont be rockport and others here trying to knock down THE BEST QB in the league hands down..man some of you try anything to help make case for dak..daks good no issue saying it but Mahomes is on an island of his own ..most players playing against the very best opponent you will see all year ie in the SB final two standing, no one gets lucky he deserved it got the mvp..last year had a bad toe and no ol i still saw guy do crazy throws not many qbs even get off and into a catch zone, his first trop to teh afccg they were a defensive penalty away from 3 straight sbs, crazy huh..

hes specials elite..sorry if that hurts your feelings..im no at mahomes fan not in college and not in the pros but blind person would say hes the top qb , don't disparage his numbers..doesn't matter, scoreboard..

hes in what 3 AFCCG in row b2b sbs two mvps , get out of here with any nonsense breaking down his numbers in the payoffs.

maybe keep it at 2nd round of playoff wins and up,,welp daks out..lol think of the absurd nature of fans who nit pick the best qb in the league to make an argument for your own..

I like how LB's QB Keenum is dead last on this chart.
