Quality is better than Splash

Now, if the splash move is Myles Garrett in a trade to keep him away from Philly and Washington, and pair him with Parsons...I might pay attention.

But, the price for that splash marketing/quality move is gonna be rich! 1st rounders plus a likely extension. Yikes.
I don't trust Jerry to make a savvy trade here.
I could easily see him overpay in terms of draft picks and then overpay on an extension.

With our two biggest divisional rivals clearly passing us last year - the egirls winning their second SB in a decade, and the commanders making it to the NFC championship game for the first time in over 30 years, our Cowboys are in dire need of a home run off-season.
SMH

Cowboys will win the NFC East in 2025. And we will SWEEP the Dead's(Washington)

Good point BH...I wouldn't mind trading down to get more picks. As you said. We don't need the splash. We need IMO more picks and hope they become quality quick. Way to many holes to be worried about splash now... IMHO

And with free agency and the draft looming, our chance to get back into the mix of teams that can realistically compete for at least some playoff wins starts soon. This may be one of the most crucial off-seasons in the long era of Jerry Jones.

With our two headed leadership team of Jerry and Stephen, there is a danger I sincerely hope they avoid: Making a “splash move” for publicity instead of doing the hard work to build a quality roster upgrade.

In short, we need QUALITY more than splash. Quality means solid impact both now and in the future. Splash may or may not be either of the above.

Why am I saying this? Because JJ as GM is really only good at one thing: Marketing. Making “splash” publicity moves. Squeezing money from every rock, and every possible source possible. He doesn’t have roster building skills. He doesn’t study film. He doesn’t even know very many players in this league outside of his own. He is not a very good judge of talent.

But Jerry Jones is good at marketing. He could sell sand in the desert. He could sell a used car to a used car salesman. His back is now somewhat against the wall. Will he turn to some splash marketing move to change the dialogue now which is focused on he and his son’s ineptitude?

Which is why I’m hoping Jerry doesn’t do something desperate using the only skill he has. I hope he focuses on using his draft chips and cap space on acquiring a set of players that make us better both now and in the future.

Quality is better than splash. We must hope that is what is ahead instead of some stupid marketing stunt.
Give me a double with a splash of quality. Salud!

The problem is we've done neither. Last off-season we didn't sign FAs we needed. Nor have we signed a splash player since who??? Brandon carr in 2012 maybe???
We don't need to sign a splash player. Last season was a rebuild year

Yeah... Hope.

Cooks. Gilmore. Guyton/Beebe.
I think if we look at Jerry's complete body of work here, the over all results are sketchy at best.
We gave 2 number one picks for the WR from the Seahawks and then a one and three to Detroit for Roy Williams.

Turned out to be overpay in both cases by a lot.

These kind of bad deals set teams back.

Need some quantity also. Several holes to fill.
Many holes to fill to be true contender.

The myth of the Cowboys being one of the best drafting teams shouldn't allow so many positional deficiencies......resisting free agency accounts for the rest.

The result is the upcoming 2025 roster.

No, we don't how about we just stay within the last 10 years how about 5?

I mean you're going way back to find bad trades, I bet you can find that every team has made one like that even the eagles won the Super bowl you're trying to tell me that them paying that kind of money to huff who didn't even make the active roster for the SB, it was a smart move? How about the new news that somehow Samuels is still a superstar umm hello 2021 you pay the man $24 million a year for him to be on a super steady decline he's done nothing since he got paid neither did 19m Cmac , Samules didn't have better numbers than Tolbert last year. ouch

But big dog is right those are good moves and by the way how about the trade down to spots still picking up Micha Parsons and then getting I believe they used a third round pick and they used it on OSA, I could be wrong but they got an extra third rounder that was a good trade..

how about they needed a turn around the season and went and got Amari Cooper? since you're on the 20 year old trade for a wide receiver they gave one number one for Amari Cooper who immediately had good rhythm with Prescott, went from 3-5 to 10-6 and went to the second round of the playoffs, so we going to skip over that,

that's the full body of work..

It would be something similar this year I'm all for them standing pat and just picking the BPA but if they can move down 3 spots still get one of their targeted top first rounders and then add that third round or fourth round pick they lost that would be a good start oh for quality you can still probably get a lot of quality players moving down and Jerry just did that in the Michael Parsons draft you know recent history not 20 year old wounds that you can't let go..

I hate to say it but if all the rumors are true it sounds like Jerry wants to get the gang back together for another run at it. He wants to sign DLaw and Osa at least. Tis doesn;t sound like any great changes are happening to me.

Ever once has tank's name came up yet what has come up is yes OSA which a lot of people say is probably a good move , who knows...JLews name has come up, you know it's been offered at least generally they were talking about a new deal and Parsons, that's it..

tank has never been brought into this as of yet...

They are not a home run player away from competing for a Super Bowl. They missed that boat from 2021-2023. During those years one splash player could have put them over the top. Now like you are saying they need a lot of quality.

Interesting…Blue I could be wrong of course but it seems to me that DLaw is not appearing to be in their plans. Unless he’s willing to be playing for chump change next year which I doubt he is.

Not sure about DLaw but otherwise it’s certainly the way this team rolls with the Jones boys. Overrate the talent they have because it’s all they know.

The talent that has given them one wild card win in six seasons. They still believe (amazingly) that they just haven’t been “lucky”.

I agree, that is what i meant, I was replying to Creep, he said bringing him back, and i said i doubt that is true, since they haven't mentioned him at all.
