Quantify Possible Improvement?

I believe that we objectively improved on defense this offseason. It would be almost impossible to have not improved.

The simple addition of Downs should be a significant impact on this defense. I don’t know how anyone would suggest otherwise.

We have added Quinnen, Clark, Gary, and the linebacker from SFA plus Downs. They should all be difference makers.

The biggest difference may by in the Coaching department. That is an unknown quality but they should have a lot more commitment, innovation and energy.

Having said all of the foregoing, from 1-32, with 32 being the cellar, what would you expect the FLOOR of this defense in terms of total defense with these changes? What do you see the MOST LIKELY scenario for this defense? What would be your MOST OPTIMISTIC outcome with these changes.
I see a defense that will struggle to pressure but will stop the run better. Still need inside linebackers that can read, shed, and flow to the ball. Probably fall 20th+ in total points.

I think Parker alone boosted the D from 32 to early/mid 20s….
Plus Downs and the backfield shouldn’t be confused all the time. That alone is a huge boost.

Ww are light in draft capital next year now. Is he really worth losing 1/6th of draft in a commonly believed strong draft?
I get that. I just don’t care about draft capital. I believe mortgaging the future is necessary if you truly are in win now. Draft picks are great entertainment wise. I had fun this draft. Also props to the Cowboys for trading next years first and not this years for Quinnen. But it I’m truly “all in” yes I’m mortgaging my cap space and future draft picks to win now. It’s why the Eagles run their team like they do and why we run our team like we do. Rams too.

Middle of the pack in defense this year somewhere around 15 to 17

Uberpuss would have killed to have this new roster.

Im no fan of the Puss, but what Jerry gave him to work with should be considered a Hate Crime

What are you asking?

Quantify possible improvement -- that would mean putting a statistical estimate with a margin of error around the improvement.

That's a pretty impossible ask.

Note that the responses you received are qualitative, not quantitative.

My verdict on this post is thumbs down -- learn what words mean before posting again.
Ouch lol

I’m not expecting much from EZ this year. Hip surgery and recovery has me concerned.

They won't be top 10 and with this offense they don't need to be. They were 30th last year. Anything between 10 and 20 would be a huge leap, and probably gets this team 10-12 wins and in the playoffs.
If we can get to avg. that’s a huge improvement and not that hard. That’s basically giving up one less TD a game. But real key is stop the explosive plays. I think downs helps a lot there. If the cb room is healthy and can develop fast we could be even better. We should be harder to run on, and that helps the secondary.

They’re still relying on really young players to make an impact at DE and idk if I believe in Gary. LB is still questionable..

I’d put the floor at 28ish.

There is a 0% chance this D finishes 28th. With the same roster as last year and Parker added it’s at minimum 20. This is a top 10-12 unit all day right now IMO

No, the biggest difference won't be in the coaching dept. We've completely remade the D, why would you even say that?

Floor: 20th
Ceiling around 10th.

The improvements have been beyond dramatic. Who's even left from the starting D at the beginning of last season? It's like Bland and that's it.

Gary is the other OLB, the Tony Tolbert, the DLaw. He is great in that role, and can slide to 3/4 DE in certain packages. GB wanted him to be a 20 sack guy, and he's not that, but what he is, a very very solid player, strong against the run and worth around 6-10 sacks. He's exactly the kind of solid player we need there.

The Parker thingie just isn't true, but there's no doubt that we've added a ton of talent.

No coach in NFL history could've made our D last season viable. Any D needs both coaching and talent.

Still need Brooks
Definitely Brooks to the middle.
And then Clowney or even better Crosby to the edge. Heck, I prefer both.
And finally Taylor Decker to LT.

If they did that they'd compete THIS year for a trophy.

That all comes down to one of the edge rushers working out.
