With the following NFL Quarterback news and gossip saying:
  • that the Eagles are franchising M Vick and will take offers for K Kolb (and that there is a ton of interest)
  • that Tenn. plans to shop V Young now that they can hold him until 10 days after a new agreement is in place
  • that SF coach Harbaugh says he really likes what he see in Alex Smith and thnks he can shine
  • that carson Palmer may want out of Cincy
  • that no trades are allowed until after an labor agreement is in place
  • that Andrew Luck--by some the only truly worthy top ten QB--will not be entering the draft (old news, but significant)
  • that Favre is almost certainly out in for good in Minnesota
Which teams are most likely to take a QB in the 1st rd of the draft and why?

What about after Round 1 (and why)?

Best trade candidates?

Here are 18 teams that I think for sure will not take a QB in the 1st round (in order by division):

Dallas
NYG
Philly
Chicago
Detroit
Green Bay
Atlanta
New Orleans
Tampa bay
St Louis
New England
NYJ
Baltimore
Pittsburgh
Houston
Indy
San Diego
Kansas City

Look, it's thread all to myself!
Too many questions or not enough interest I guess.

Anyway, assuming no trades at thins point, I'll take a stab at who will go for QBs and in what round:

>50% chance of taking QB in the 1st round:
Arizona--I think the guys they have are backups, except maybe Skelton someday
Tennessee--I'll be surprised if they don't take a QB to start over

50% chance of going QB by Round 2:
Minnesota--they two backups are both servicable,..flip a coin I guess
Washington--maybe
San Francisco--are claims that Harbaugh like A Smith a smokescreen?
Carolina--took 2 QBs last year and I think both are backup types.
Buffalo--they like Fitzpatrick, but do they like him enough?

Teams that could take a QB sometime in the 1st four rounds:
Cleveland--I think they like McCoy, so this is questionable
Oakland--hmmm?
Seattle--I thought they liked the backup. but there are rumblings
Cincy--if palmer gets his wish then they need a QB
Jacksonville--Garrard is okay, but they need to groom the next guy and this a good year to draft one
Denver--Orton is ok but not great, Tebow is the wildcard and was not the new coaches guy
Miami--they are souring on Henne

Arizona will look at QB in free agency in my opinion because I think they like what they see in Skelton...but aren't quite ready to hand him the reigns just yet.

I think the Titans take a QB in round 1 for sure.

Other than that, it really is a crapshoot. Niners should go QB, but I know they would rather bring in a veteran (like McNabb or Hasselbeck) than bring in another youngster and put all their hopes in him panning out.

I know they have a history of terrible first rounds but, I really don't think the Bills pass up Mallet, Newton or Locker if any is there. After Buffalo, I think Tennessee is most likely to look to the draft for a quarterback, but I don't think they reach in round one.

With all the defensive talent in this draft and the Steelers and Packers repping in the Superbowl, I think it is very likely two of the top quarterbacks slip into the second round and our pick in round two becomes a hot commodity. Much hotter than our first round pick.
