I have read through Hostile and SDogo reports of Garretts love for Andy Dalton in your or anyone else's honest opinions how does Andy Dalton rank against what we currently have on our current Roster with McGee as the 3rd Stringer ?

After reading Hostile and SDOGO posts this weekend I think most of us will come away dissapointed in this years draft if we pick up a QB in the second round. QB is the least of our worries but JJ is going to try to get cute and trade down to pick up extra picks. Look at what trading down in 2009 got us? A bunch of Speacial team players that weren't to special.

I do not want to take a bunch of guys that potentially could be good. I want guys that can play now: Constanzo, Tyron Smith, Gabe Carimi in the 1st Round. A guy I truly want in the 3rd Round is Will Rackley. I honestly feel he'll turn out just as good as Mike Pouncey. I truly feel that.....:starspin

My take about taking Dalton in the 2nd was the idea that if they traded down some to get another pick(s) they would take him. I don't know if it has changed to the point of them taking him at 40 or not. That might depend on if we don't trade up for Peterson or trade down in the first to acquire more picks.

With that being said. I like him a great deal and I think most that have had interviews and has studied him like him a great deal due to his intelligence (both regular and football), his leadership and his over all attitude and charisma. He seems like a guy you just really like after talking with him both as a person and a football player.

Now I would not go and get all worried about taking him at 40 or lower in the draft as I really don't think he will fall to us.

I think those teams that do not take a QB in the early first round will wind up trading up into the bottom of the 1st or just wait and hope he is sitting there in the first few picks of the 2nd round and taking him there. Teams like Cincy or possibly some teams trading up into the first few picks of the 2nd round.

I think when things are all said and done Dalton and Ponder will be taken before our pick #40 in the second round.

If your mind is made up on what you think, why ask us our opinions?

Also, don't worry about it. Dalton will be gone before we pick at 40. I 100% guarantee it.

if dalton is gone before 40 as many are projecting, fine

my issue with taking him is not how good he can be, that is up to JG and JJ and the scouting people to decide, my reservation is from this perspectives:

we have a very, very good QB in romo who can get us over the top if we get the right pieces around him so our focus should be on getting this team better to win now (ie next 3-4 years while romo is in his prime) and a top 2nd round pick is a premium pick IMO to pick up someone who can help the team in a significant way this year or the next

Dalton is a excellent QB who can make all the throws......and if we do not pick him 1st which we will not ......Dalton will be gone by the time we see another pick!

I can promise you that and I am NOT a draft expert.

Who was the last QB we took in the second? I am trying to remember but a cloud of smoke is all that I recall.

I guess the better question would be be" who is the best QB we have gotten in Rd 2 or later?"

That answer would be Tony Romo.

I'm not sure either... but I remember his throwing motion:

puff-puff-pass

We, since we never drafted him, I think that this would not apply.

Quincy Carter.

Actually that answer would be Roger Staubach.

This....
or at least that what I hope would be the case. Burning our only 2nd rounder on him would be a bit disturnbing to me.
