Where in this analysis was my point negated?
Nowhere, if you believe that McNabb and Brees are the best at placing the ball where it best sets up yards after the catch, and Manning and Palmer are among the worst.

Completely, if you realize YAC has more to do with who catches the ball than who throws it.

You're not getting it. Your point is that YAC has more to do with system than the QB's ability to place the ball. This says nothing, however, about the QB's ability to place the ball.

QB Ratings are laughable.

You could put Ryan Leaf on a team with Jerry Rice in his prime, Randy Moss when he's trying and Terrell Owens with a Sharpie in his sock and low and behold he could post a rating slightly over 100.

But then you put Favre out on the field with just 5 men blocking, Bledsoe and Testeverde running routes and he'd put up 90. Who's the better QB huh?

Yea but see Your hypothesis depends on the assumption that Qb's are not Greek gods that can will a team to victory with Fart blast from their majestic *****. You should know the mediots nor the average Joe sixpack fan is ready to let that FANTASY GO.

You don't want to exclude YAC from passer rating because you said it would mean negating something positive for which the QB was partially responsible.

My point is, since the most accurate QB's can often have the lowest YAC totals, let's go ahead and take it out. It's a receiver's stat. If you want to talk about precise placement of passes, what about passes into tiny "windows" that are thrown low on purpose so that only the receiver has the opportunity to catch the ball, not the defender?

Fascinating.

Jeff Garcia played with Jerry Rice and Terrell Owens in SF in 1999. He only put up a 77.9 PR. In fact, Garcia, who is a hell of a lot better than Leaf, never put up a single PR of over 100 while playing with those guys. All that while playing in an offense (West Coast) that should INFLATE the passer rating tremendously by generating higher completion rates.

Actually, I never said that I wouldn't want to exclude it from passer rating.

No, it turns out you were just offering an invalid reason why it shouldn't be excluded.

It's not invalid. It's just outweighed by other reasons. I expected it would be when I posted it, but I wanted to point out that it's a concern.
