Quentin Johnston TCU

Wheaton isnt very good and definitely doesnt play to his measurables
The OP said that because Johnson is big with a 40" vert that NFL coaches can teach him to catch/high-point the ball.

If it's just a matter of coaching, then coach up Wheaton.
- He is taller with a better Vert. Based on the OP's logic, he just needs coaching...

Ok, but that's not a 1st Rd pick. You're drafting physical traits when the player doesnt even play upto his advantages.

I disagree… First round players have holes in their game too.

There is a reason most of them get better as they get older. They start out raw.

You’re drafting for Tomorrow not today.

I haven’t looked at Wheaton but there is other factors too.

Johnstons strengths are so good and he physically has a answer to his weaknesses.

He’s going to be a monster once he catches the ball already.

So what has anyone said that makes you think he's getting better Tomorrow? Brugler - "Johnston requires polish with his route-running and ball-finishing skills" and Zierlein -"He will benefit from a more accurate deep-ball quarterback". Add the fact that he's universally criticized for not using his physical attributes on contested catches.....do you think he's going to incur Dak's confidence?

Wheaton needs significantly more coaching than Johnson. Johnson is a good football player, Wheaton is not. Wheaton plays like he runs a 4.7. The two arent comparable

I like, but don’t love QJ.

His movement skills for a dude his size is pretty rare, and he’s one of the very few WRs in the class with legit WR1 potential IMO.

You see him use his catch radius and snatch the football away from his body at times, but he doesn’t attack it consistently, which is my knock on him.

I still think he warrants a back end 1st round selection.

His name is Johnston. Why doesn’t anyone get it right? Literally nobody

OP only referenced measurables.

We can use Alexander Wright...
- He won the NFL's fastest man competition both times he was in the competition.
- His speed showed up on the field.
- A year after being drafted he ran an NFL verified 4.15 forty (hand timed).
- A 2nd witness timed him at 4.09

He benched pressed 400 pounds.

6-0, 200

He could NOT catch the ball...

- Jimmy traded him to the Raiders for a 4th round pick.

I would be OK with Q. Johnson at #58. Worst case throw it to him short and let him gain yards after catch.

At #26 there are likely better options.

The guy has rare after the catch ability and the thing everyone is knocking him on is how he plays the ball while it’s in the air yet he has a 40 inch vertical.

So you’re telling me a guy that size, who moves like Lamb, has a 40 inch vertical and you’re scared to draft him because he doesn’t high point well?

Well then teach him lol. This is silly.

He has literally every tool to be good at this. Just coach him to do it.

If he starts high pointing passes and you past on him because you didn’t see it on tape but the skill set is clearly there then what are you doing as a GM or coach?

If Dallas wants a wideout then that’s our guy imo.

He fits perfect into our offense as an X WR and Dak’s not one to throw a contested ball anyways.
Rare after the catch ability? Its the opposite. He has great high ball skills and then gets tackled. 2nd round talent in a bad WR draft. He is overhyped because its a poor draft.

The skill set is intriguing. Dangerous player with the ball in his hands. But there are definitely areas that need work. Wonder if a team like the Chiefs would pull the trigger at the end of round 1 ?

I've vacillated on Johnston this whole draft season.

If playing WR is about getting open and catching the ball, he's not really a clean projection on either. Not much separation on tape, poor contested catch percentage, and he had several easy drops.

Physically, he looks exactly like a less rocked-up Dez Bryant. 4.5 speed, otherworldly burst, zero change of direction, all fueling a plant-and-go playstyle. Both of them broke a wild amount of tackles for 6'3" receivers, because they can go zero to 100 instantly.

I think you can justify a gamble on a poor man's Dez at #24. And he's the kind of sideline complement that I'd want to have for a slot god like CeeDee. But it's still a gamble, cause he's not really polished on a lot of WR fundamentals. He cheats it in college with superior athleticism, but he's not athletic enough to play sloppy and beat pros.

He gives me Lamb without the ball skills but more deep speed vibes. Big, long and lean with crazy quickness for his size.

Your assessment is fair. At the end of the 1st tough we’re probably gonna get some warts with whoever we get…QJs ball skills, McDonalds weight / age, Forbes weight etc…

I agree. He has Lambs Skill set in a bigger body.

Lamb is better at creating route separation though.

And better at finishing…

To clarify I had Lamb as a legit, top 10 WR prospect…quite a bit better than QJ.

Pass. Receivers that can’t catch are not first round prospects

He should have a physical advantage over virtually every DB he faces yet does poorly in contested balls. Seems like a red flag to me. And before you blame his QB, there is a likely chance he gets drafted, and a decent chance he goes to the Cowboys.
He'd have a physical advantage over nobody b/c he won't see enough of the field in Dallas. You don't use a first round pick to strengthen and area of strength. Once we signed Brandon Cooks, the talk of WR in round 1 should be over.
