Okay, just one week to go so doing a little what if type theory.
We all know of the trades that have gone down so far. We know the potential of other drafts that probably will happen when it comes to QBs. We know there will be some surprise picks in the 1st round as there always are. We think we know the guys draft wants or needs.
So if the so called experts are right on the QBs and it goes something like this on the first 4 picks:
1. Cleveland - Josh Allen QB Wyoming
2. Buffalo - Sam Darnold QB USC
3. NY Jets - Josh Rosen QB UCLA
4. NY Giants - Bradley Chubb DE North Carolina
Then there is going to be a situation where other trades start to happen with Denver and on down. Looking at the board, team needs, etc. , it appears that Nelson could fall into the 9 to 15 range.
If you are Dallas and suddenly you see Nelson at say 12 or 14 or 15, would you (not saying Dallas would) trade up to get Nelson?
I am just thinking we need defense but the thought of a OL of Smith, Nelson, Frederick, Martin, and Collins with Zeke running behind it would be a killer offensive. Teams would always have to have 8 in the box, heck maybe even 9 on some plays then if you run a RPO play there will always be a WR open or TE open.
The offensive could hold the ball for at least 8 to 10 minutes every drive. Defensive free to take some chances and less time on the field for them, a good thing.
Could it happen, don't know, possibility absolute since only 3 guards have been drafted in the top 10 since the year 2000 and only one of them was successful (Leonard Davis). Most teams do not like to spend a high draft pick on a guard. Just think about the positions that go high because it gets more unlikely a good one falls, positions like QB, DE, CB, OT, even RB and LB.
So if the so-called experts are right and 6 QBs end up going in the top 15, it becomes more likely a guy like Nelson could be there in that 9-16 range, so what would you do, take the best defensive guy around, or a WR or take a guy that most everyone "expert" agrees is the first or second best player in the draft.
