Question about Cooper and Collins

Assuming we have no plans for using Cooper and Collins for RT, then we have 3 backup guards if Collins is activated.
The question is why.
It is nice to have OG backup giving Leary's situation.

I presume this provides extra backup and options for multiple positions.

1) If Leary is not healthy, then obviously activating Leary is a serious option.
2) Is it true that Collins does not have to be activated for Sunday?
3) If true AND Leary is healthy, then someone other than Collins may be activated off the practice squad - who would depend on injuries during practice or it could well be Rico time?
4) If an OG/OL becomes injured on sunday, then Collins can be activated for the following week.
5) When does Collins have to be activated by?

Collins has 21 days from when he first started practicing.
I beleive they can wait until the SB to activate him. Well, a few days after the NFC CG anyway.

Neither will be active. They are cover for injuries the following game. We won't activate Collins yet as we only get 4 moves post season and have used one already. You don't activate a guy who isn't going to be active - it makes no sense.

He's only active if we've got an injury on the interior. We played this well.

They've already added Collins to the 53 according to reports.

During the regular season they only had 7 OL active except for 1 time they had 8. Looney was the interior backup.

Rico seems highly unlikely despite any rambling by Jerry. The Cowboys coaches like precision of execution at TE over raw ability.

Do you know what constitutes one move? IOW, If we had to cut one player to activate another, would that be considered one move or two? Thanks.

Stack up on QB, RB and OL in the playoffs. That's our bread and butter. After seeing Connor Cook and Matt Moore ruin their teams' season, I'm glad we have a Pro Bowler as our backup. Raiders were also missing their star LT.

I expect it would be roster additions as that is what you get the benefit from. I've seen sources say we have three moves left so it appears cutting Seymour isn't considered a move.

Thanks. If I had remembered that we cut Seymour, I would have known the answer. I completely forgot about him.

according to flagship, collins still on IR.
not sure which reports say he is on 53, not the 3-week in-between status...

The report that I heard said he was replacing Randy Gregory on the roster.

Cooper replaced the OG Seymour.

Signing Cooper now makes him a Cowboy free agent in the offseason and will not count against the comp pick formula when he is resigned to replace Leary. If he signs elsewhere, I'm assuming he will count as a lost free agent in out favor. It also provides nice insurance for the playoffs. Its a good move all the way around since they didn't have to cut anyone to sign him.

Likely we don't make a move until the last possible minute.

If, for example, he suffers a setback we'd have wasted a move. A good reason to wait

Agreed. We do have lots of options. Cooper move allows in-depth evaluation plus extra depth. It also allows us us to cut Cooper if a different position is needed and still have Collins whom can be activated later.
