I know that when you franchise someone it is supposed to be something like a 1st rd pick or two 1st rd picks. But can't a team franchise the player, and then negotiate what they want in return for him? Like the 49ers franchise JP and trade him for a 2nd or 3rd rd pick? That is possible right? I am having an argument with a friend. He is saying that if he is franchised he must be traded for teh two 1st's and I am saying that if they franchise JP they will be able to negotiate what they want for him and get a 2nd rd pick or whatever.
Am I wrong or right? I would think that if the only possible trade option for a franchise player is two 1st rders that franchise players would never ever be traded. any kind of website with proof would be nice also.

Yes. A team can trade the guy for whatever they want. Usually you get less.

Unless you deal with the Jerry. He'll give you 2 firsts straight up.

You are right... If you franchise a player you can do a sign and trade, where the player re-signs and is then traded. The player would work out the contract with the oppsite team, and the teams work out the details of the trade.

you are right. there's a copy of the complete cba at nflpa.org, also a nice place if you want salary info. every players salaries are there

BTW there are two types of Franchise Player. Exclusive which means no team is allowed to even contact said player and Non-exclusive which is what your talking about, where he can be contacted and even agree to a deal with another team. If he agrees and the team doesn't match the deal then they are awarded the other teams first round pick for the next two drafts.
