Is there a rule that prohibits a team from spiking the ball after the opposing team calls a timeout?

Example: After Coughlin called the TO to freeze Bailey. Could Garrett have sent out the offense just to spike the ball? 1) There was time on the clock for this to happen 2) This would have given Bailey's leg a minute or 2 to rest up before kicking again.

If this is not allowed, then Garrett should have sent the offense back out for a quick WR screen attempt...it would be overthrown of course...;)

It's a play from scrimmage so I don't see why not. Of course you always run the risk of a false start or something like that.

Well if its blocked its blocked, resting the leg would not stop that and "resting" the leg sounds like it will make him cold

To add to that, the purpose of the time out is to "ice" the kicker...give him time to think about the gravity of the coming kick attempt. Sending your offense out to spike the ball before kicking would simply serve to ice the kicker even longer.

Yeah, but if we had done that in the Arizona game, we'd have 2 timeouts left to bring home on the plane!!;)
