When Dallas was running the 4-3 scheme the last few years I kept reading how they needed a big, run stopping nose tackle. When they switched to the 3-4 this season, I still kept reading how they needed a big, run stopping nose tackle. When I think of this type of player, I think of guys that are over 325 lbs and hopefully approaching 350 lbs. I understand that the 350 lb guys are a rare, but there are several who are 325 lbs.

I think Dallas still needs this type of guy. Ferguson is listed at 305 lbs and that looks about right. He doesn't look bigger than that. I like Ferguson, but I think the nose tackle position would have been better suited with a much bigger guy. Will there be any guys like this in the draft this season?

First - in the 4-3 you have 2 tackles, not a noseguard. Thats a 3-4 term only.

second. the point of a noseguard. that is his job duties, is not to get tackles, not to get sacks. Not to force fumbles, not even to chase the guy with the ball. His jb is to stand on the line of schrimage and take on 2 or 3 or 4 guys and not let them move him out of the way. Clog the middle. Make it so the RB can not run up the middle. if hes running ourside, he cant cut it back up the middle, cause there that noseguard with 2 or 3 linemen in his pockets.

Ferguson does this well. If you want a Noseguard that does his job, you have one. Glover did a good job at this as well.

I know there are two tackles in the 4-3 scheme and Dallas referred to one of the tackles as the nose tackle. His job was to occupy the center and the guard.

I never said I wanted the guy to get tackles and sacks. I just asked about bigger guys for the job.

Like I said, I like Ferguson, but the scheme can be more effective with a bigger guy that is more of a space eater. I saw Ferguson pushed off the ball at times.

I don't think Glover will be with the Cowboys next season. I think that is a shame, but he isn't being fully utilized to his strengths any more, so that doesn't help the team.

Our scheme had a cocked DT that was over the center. Noble, Blade, Carson and the like were listed as NT on our roster.

Of course, it takes more than size to be a good nose tackle. NT also have to be able to move with some quickness and penetrate on the snap so that 2 OL HAVE to block them.
