My buddy and I were watching a game yesterday where a 3rd and long was incomplete, and it was debatable whether the non-catch should have been challenged. In addition, the offense was called for holding on the play, with the penalty rightfully declined.

My question is what if the penalty is declined and the offense challenges that the catch was valid? If it is overturned, does the defense now get to accept the penalty?

I don't see anything in the rulebook that addresses it, but I'm pretty sure that the penalty could be accepted if the challenge was successful.

Yes, they will get the chance to accept the penalty.
