Question About Playoff Scenarios?

Hey guys,

I have a quick question regarding the playoff scenarios for the Dallas Cowboys. How would New Orleans winning help the Cowboys make the playoffs? Right now it is:

A Minnesota loss or tie and New Orleans win or tie OR
A Minnesota loss or tie and Carolina loss or tie

I understand the Minnesota and Carolina loss one, because then they are both 6-8 and we would clinch. However, why would the Saints winning along with Minnesota losing clinch a spot for the Cowboys? Thanks for the info.

We're in the playoffs.

It's all about the spot now.

Root for the Skins on Sunday.

Actually, we are not in the playoffs yet... The above still needs to happen. I know it is pretty much a done deal that we are in the playoffs, but not quite technically yet. I still want to know why the Saints winning helps us make the playoffs.

If we lose out, NO loses out and Carolina wins out, Carolina takes the South and then NO knocks us out on the head to head tiebreaker. This cannot happen if NO clinches the South by winning.

Yup..., that makes perfect sense, thanks. I would still rather NO lose though, so that maybe they can loose 2 and Dallas can win out and clinch a first round bye.
