Have you ever seen or heard of this drill being used by the defensive backs?

Wide receivers have a drill where the receiver stands in the middle between coaches and the coach shouts and the receiver turns as the ball is coming at him.

It teaches him to locate and snatch the ball out of the air.

Have you ever seen defensive backs going through this drill for turning back to the ball in the air and taking it away?

And if not, why do you suppose they wouldn't teach this to defenders as well?

I can't say for certain, but I think I've seen DBs running a similar drill during the early part of training camp practices. Because you'll see a lot of DBs dropping them :laugh2:

...too static for a DB drill. It typically used for WR as atehcnique drill where they work on their hands and their hand eye coordination. It doesn't pattern the situation DBs go through in their assignments.

A typical version I have seen is 4 on 4s where DBs are the receivers and the defenders. This increases their reps and allows them to work on pass coverage and interceptions.

There are two QBs one on the left and one on the right and a list showing the patterns to be run by the receivers.

Every snap two balls are in the air. There's lot's of defending. You have to learn to adjust to the receiver and locate the ball in the air.

Lot's of reps and tons of learning in a short period of time. You switch through 4 positions at the defender side and 4 on the receiver side.

Works lots of skills and if you run it at a good clip it can be a gasser after 30 reps.

Thanks for the information.

The offensive line better be do a lot of practice. We don't need all those penalties, like last week.

Speaking of practice, I wonder if Jenkins is going to practice some at Free Saftey this week , since we have some injuries?

Pretty sure I've seen this (or drills like this) in the past as well at Cowboys training camps.

I've been to several training camps and don't remember ever seeing the DBs do this type of drill.

Thought it might improve their ability to see the ball and catch it.

But I'm a fan, therefore what the heck do I know?

More of a WR drill but I've occasionally seen it with DBs esp after a game where they dropped INTs.

Actually, I saw a similar drill when poodle was still the DB coach. The difference was that the DB would face the QB and then turn around and face away from the ball once it was thrown. Oh, and when turned around, it was important to raise your arms and flail away at the ball.
