The bears ownership are known for being a tad cheap.

From my understanding he, Rivera, was one of the lower paid DC's and Lovie was one of, if not the lowest, paid coaches in the NFL.

Chances are if they are cheap they will give money to Lovie but not want to give money to both Lovie and Rivera.

I don't know if that is the reason but it could be one of the reasons.

Also something else to consider. Maybe Rivera just does not want to stay in Chicago for various reasons.

Excellent question. Maybe he's not so great, poor management perhaps? Maybe that's the way Rivera planned it. I don't see him making any lateral moves.

Could be because they know to renew Mr Smith's contract is going to cost them a bundle. It is also common knowledge that the Bear's organization showers in WD40.

And you are correct on Lovie being the least paid HC in the NFL, 99% sure.
