Question about Rolando McClain

Would his status, as not reporting but not cut from the team, still make him subject to drug testing this season?

If he is subject to drug testing before he is cut and if he were to fail another drug test and be suspended for the remainder of this season, would the front office be able to recoup all of the money in his contract including the 750K signing bonus?

not sure, but the more he misses camp, the more we can fine him, so we'll eventually get everything back.

I expect he still gets tested or he isn't eligible for reinstatement. Gregory may be exempt as he's in treatment which likely is satisfactory for the league to forgo it.

It wouldn't make sense for a player to not get tested at all then show up at the end of the suspension and be able to play.

I heard even if he dies he still gets the 750k. In fact it happened to a Raiders player a couple of years ago.

Well the signing bonus is now eligible to be reclaimed from what i read.
And getting it back from Ro might be another issue, but that is small change to jerry.
The main thing is it will be added back to the cap as positive

I am not sure, but missing a test is considered a failed test.

That is not correct at all......signing bonuses are routinely paid back because of retirements, suspensions and holdouts

right now McClain has forfeited 10/17ths of his 750k signing bonus and 10/17th of his 1.25m salary because of his 10 game suspension....DAL doesn't get it back all at once though, the are rebated weekly.....if DAL cut McClain he would keep the remaining 7/17ths of the 750k but he wouldn't get any more base salary or roster bonuses.....DAL would immediate clear around 2.5m in cap space, by waiting they can eventually recover the remaining 300k and fine him for missing camp

but they also run the risk of him getting hurt in camp and then they can't cut him without making an injury settlement and a hit against the cap...DAL has to eat the 760k on KMoore's contract and might have to eat Gachkar's 1.6m if he misses significant time

I think the team has to initiate some sort of process to reclaim it. It is possible the Raiders chose not to.

Not sure this is even worth the headache.

If he did actually die, I think the team would have a tough decision about recouping any signing bonus.....really depends on the deal and details I guess

I heard that too and I think it was Mickey too but I am sure there are others on this board that know more about this than me

Well best to let ol jerry decide what to collect from Ro or not collect.
The money will be credited back to the cap.

Meanwhile Ro is eating catfish and banana sandwiches!!:muttley:

I'll let the great Darren Woodson speak for me on McClain....

Woodson: "When Rolando McClain came out and Nick Saban basically stuck his neck out for him a few years ago, he came out and I thought his first year he played exceptionally well. And the word around Valley Ranch had always been that he was highly intelligent. Got guys lined up and played with a lot of energy when he was on the field. But after his first year things seemed to just go spiral down. And I know that he ended up getting that four-game suspension (in 2015) but the talk around Valley Ranch was there were times he just didn't want to play. He'd show up Wednesday, Thursday and actually didn't want to practice. They'd have to force him to practice. Show up on Friday or Saturday before a game and say, 'Hey, I'm not feeling so I'm not playing.'

"To me as a football player, there's 53 players on that roster. You're counting on all 53 guys to be available. And especially if you've gone a full week of practice, guys are expecting you to be out there on Sunday to go to battle with them. For a guy who was a captain for the Dallas Cowboys for a number of years, that is absolutely unacceptable. And to be that selfish as a person to not only check yourself out of games but to go through a suspension the last couple years, he just did not want to play the game and I just can't believe the Cowboys offered him another deal this offseason and that he still hasn't been cut. They need to separate themselves as far as possible from Rolando McClain."

I had this same stance on him months ago and one of our resident geniuses told me I was a hater.

Yeah McLain has all the talent. However mentally he just doesn't have the will power to do it. Such a waste of talent. Good luck to him in life.

You are probably right about the cash but, Jerry is only interested in getting the CAP space back which we can recover 1/17th each week. There is also the matter
of fines that are being accumulated for everyday he misses camp. I think most of his salary will come back to the Cowboy's cap which is all that Jerry and Stephen
wants.
