Question about Uverse/Direct TV HD resolution?

Long story short, the Uverse contract is up in a few days and have been going round and round with them. They suggested to switch over to Direct TV and told me that even though you pay for HD Uverse transmits the signal in 720. Direct TV however transmits the signal in 1080
Can anyone in the know confirm/deny this?

I can confirm that Directv does, in fact, broadcast in 1080i. There is very little across all platforms that broadcast in 1080p (there IS SOME content that streams at that resolution but not a ton. And 4K? Pshhhh. Forget it). The 4K content is a loop of the same programs over and over and the PPV content is ridiculously expensive. It's the main reason I won't buy a 4K t.v., right now. I can buy one next year or the year after for 70% of the costs right nw and there will actually be content to watch. People paying a premium for a 4K tv right now with the limited content are going to feel like fools in two years when the 4K tv prices will be at the lowest and the actual volume of content will be at it's highest. They're wasting their money to "wait in line"

There's quite a bit of 4k (and HDR) content now with streaming services and UHD blu-ray. Broadcast is obviously going to be well behind.

I see where oppo has announced a 4k UHD player later this year. The projected price is $499.
