Question about Vickers Value

From what i can remember the media saying about Vickers before he got here, he's had a fairly productive career as a FB. Last year our running game was supposed to improve with him, which obviously wasnt the case.

He normally gets roasted around here for his production last year, and most assume he's getting cut this year. But Travis Frederick is supposed to be a big upgrade for us at center, and maybe the combination of his ability to open up running lanes, with Vickers blocking experience could turn into a nice little surprise for us. Maybe we get the Vickers we were expecting when we signed him last year.

Thoughts?

If I remember correctly, Vickers was battling injuries over the course of the season. I don't know if he was ever 100% but I don't think it would have mattered much. IMO, there isn't a FB out there who could do his job properly behind that line.

Who knows if he gets cut or not, depends on camp injuries I guess. The addition of Fred should help a lot in the run game but how often do we run right up the middle? I don't know where to find those stats.

I still like the guy and i don't believe his reputation as a good lead blocker over the years gets taken away by a poor season last year. Like someone already said, its tough to lead block when you have 5 guys coming at you because our OL was terrible at run blocking. If we have a decent OL this year, i think we will see him do a very good job for us. Still like his passion and energy.

I like him as a blocker but I like him even more as a locker room leader. I hope the organization sees the positive effect he's had on young guys like Dez.

No value...keep an extra TE. Use the TE in multiple roles. We have three decent TE on the roster.

FB too limited and less value.
