I felt good about the oline.

They had made strides, but this OL was two years removed from Aikman getting sacked by the Eagles some 8 times in one game.

As the season wore on, you could see them gain more and more confidence. They began to simply wear teams down.

They were a deep OL.

Yep it was the september 91 game. We played the entire division in 4 straight weeks.

I remember thinking we are never going to figure out how to beat this stinking philadelphia team.

I put that game on TYT if anyone wants it. I am going to finish the 91 season here in about a month when I get some time, uploading to tyt that is. The week after the eagles game we played the giants and aikman was awesome and we won late on a issac holt interception, hostetler threw for 400 yards....Aikman said recently with brad sham that it was one of his favorite games ever and that it was maybe his favorite home game at texas stadium. The giants had beaten dallas like 8 or 9 straight times..cant remember and we finally got the monley off our back that day!

that is why that kelvin martin punt return is so logged in my memory, that was the moment. Even though they still whipped us the first time in philly in 92.

If this board were around in the spring of 92 people would be going nuts.

Stepnoski, novacek and irvin all held out and it got ugly with jerry and irvin. Then the team had to go to tokyo for an extra preseason game.

plus the cowboys had their own "juan rivera stole derek jeters glove" incident when that backup running back...cant remember his name off the top of my head stole emmitt smiths suv at training camp in austin!!!!

this place would be pure misery and comedy if we he had a time machine.

Expectations were pretty high, but I don't think they were as high as they are right now. We were a very young team then, and I don't think many people realized just how talented we were all over the field. It didn't take long for us to see it after the season got going.

You are right. The offensive line had some shockingly bad moments before that 92 season.

A lot goes into an offensive line playing well though. Just because that line played poorly in a few games, didn't mean it was a bad O-Line.

That's why you can't just look at the Minn. game and say, "We have big problems on the O-Line." The line also played very well in some games last year.

If healthy, our line should be fine. Even with an injury, Barron or Holland shouldn't be a big dropoff. Center is the only place I have much concerns, but if Kosier can learn it, then we should be fine with him moving over and Holland replacing him at LG.

the 91 Commanders were one of the best teams the leauge has ever had and there was no reason to think they would slip like they did. Mark rypien just was not the same guy in 92 that he was in 91.

But I still felt like if we could beat washington we could beat philly and ny. And we came out and whipped the skins to start the season and it set the tone for the whole year.

Washington beat us by 2 points at home in 91 and we beat them on the road. Had emmit smith not taken a supplement that made him throw up over and over and afffect him in the second half of that monday night game against the skins in Dallas we might have beat them twice.

but after the win in chicago in the playoffs in 91, it felt like the team needed to get a better pass rush and play the playoff games at home.

I never thought going into the season we were as good as the niners. I knew given another year we could beat the lions/skins and giants.

The eagles and niners had me worried. When we ended up beating them both it was an incredible feeling.

What were your thoughts on the OL back in 92? Do you remember them as dominant, just good, or what?

And Star4Ever, you are correct. Haley was the piece that put us over the top. Opposing QB's no longer had several seconds to just sit back there and pick the secondary apart (like the Lions did in the 91 playoffs).

I don't remember having many OL concerns or concerns for the offense at all.

For me it was all defense. We played all right against the run and really hustled as a unit. But you could see the lack of star power, real difference makers. Our offense was loaded with them. Our defense just couldn't defend the pass. Little pass rush and no real good cover people.

Haley was awesome from day one. But Smith was also key. He took over the starting RCB spot mid season 92 and it was like the final piece.

Now we had a fairly decent defense with nice depth and added two star type players that addressed the biggest weakness, defending the pass. And as our all know our D ended up #1 in yards allowed for 1992.

I wasn't concerned about the O-line really. Norv had our offense running by that point. Overall our team was getting much better every year and I remember thinking we had a chance to really do well.

Going into this season I can say I'm feeling pretty much the same way I did then.

Because we had to top rusher in the NFL the OL was considered a strong point. Newton and Stepnoski were both Pro Bowlers. Step was All Pro that year.

I don't get this thinking there is some great comparison between the '09 or '10 Dallas team and the team in the early '90s.

That early '90s team was mostly real young players. If the team could of been kept together they could of dominated the league for 10 years.

This current team has some good-to-great players, but key guys like Witten and Romo aren't 22 year old future HOF'ers with 8-10 years left on their NFL clocks.

That was Erik Williams first year as a starter at RT. He totally dominated Reggie White at the 2nd meeting with Philly and during the playoffs.
