Ok got a question for nfl gurus. Best I remember, a couple of teams did this, they partially released a player, then they pulled him back and traded that player after interest was formed.

So, can the cowboys do this, partially release T O, then pull him back within 24 hours back off the market and trade him.

Once the paperwork is filed, unless there was an error with the paperwork itself, I cannot see there being a legal way to "undo" it.

If this happened in the past I am sure it was a situation where a team announced they were going to release a player but changed their mind prior to submitting the paperwork or a problem was found in the paperwork.

Why would someone want to trade with us since they know we don't want to keep him?

if you get several teams showing they are interested, so you might could trade him so the war on bidding price wouldnt go up. That way a team could trade for him, with T O, his agent and the cowboys working out a relative price to acquire him for both parties.

I think thats what i remember Reality, cant remember what team it was, but they talked about releasing a player, it reached the headlines, etc, then they pulled back the paper work before it went to the NFL. And worked out a trade.

its kinda like kitna said the other night, he thought he was going to be released the following week, but a couple of teams were interested in him, So he got traded, so the value for his contract wouldnt go up.

I don't see this happening. that would have to be an extreme screw up in the paper work or something for something like that to be allowed to happen.

The only time that I know it has happened was a player getting released over the weekend and cancelled before opening of business on Monday. I don't remember the player or team.

I believe you are thinking about the video game where you cut off the power before saving the game. That's not real life.

Kitna thought he would get released but did not. Owens has been released and will not be back.

I don't know that they would want to re-sign him as the damage has pretty much already been done. The cap hit is already applied, so to speak. However, if he cleared waivers, then we would be free to re-sign him if we wanted to. No point to it really but that's probably the only way it could be done.
