Adam

Have just read that ZT got a 1yr deal for 2m.

How does this affect the Canty comp pick for 101.
Realise its a year away but i'm sure i'm not the only one interested.

Cheers

Thanks for sharing the info.

Adam indicated in an earlier post that even Zach Thomas signing for the veteran minimum given his tenure in the league would likely be enough to count in the compensatory equation and entitle us to either a third or fourth round selection in '10.

$2 million is good news for Zach and us.

Zach Thomas Contract Details Revealed
Posted by Aaron Wilson on April 12, 2009, 3:43 p.m. EDT
The Kansas City Chiefs’ one-year contract with veteran linebacker Zach Thomas is worth $2 million, according to a league source.

Mike Florio just texted us the details. He’s also reporting that Thomas is projected to start at inside linebacker.

Thomas, 35, is entering his 14th NFL season and started 14 games last season for the Dallas Cowboys.

He recorded 94 tackles and one sack last season.

According to NFL.com, the former Miami Dolphins star has registered 1,076 career tackles, 20 1/2 sacks and 17 interceptions with four touchdowns.

It would depend on how that $2 million is structured. I'll find out in a few days. If it's all money that would count in the comp equation, he'd obviously qualify.

Isn't there a 5th round limit on 10+ year vets?

I agree. I've complained about this type of thing, to no avail. I almost never used to check this forum, but now I've started checking the NFL Zone every day for Cowboys news. It doesn't make sense to me, but that's how it's done.

So what's the tally

Gained:
Igor Olshansky
Keith Brooking
Gerald Sensabaugh

Lost:
Chris Canty
Zach Thomas
Kevin Burnett
Tank Johnson
Joe Berger (was he an UFA or a RFA with no tender?)

im not sure what the tally is, would be great if we can get something for canty and burnett,

remember canty cost a # 4 pick, in draft, while burnett was a # 2 pick in nfl draft

maybe we can get a 3rd and 4th for canty and burnett

Tank Johnson doesn't qualify for the comp pick equation. Zach Thomas will -- I got his contract details, and his contract value in the formula will be $1.75 million. Joe Berger was a UFA.

So as far as the comp equation is concerned, we've signed three and lost four right now, which would give us a comp pick for Canty. Hopefully neither Thomas nor Burnett nor Berger will be cut by their new teams.
