Depending on where we are picking in the 2016 NFL Draft what 2 or 3 players or even positions do you feel best helps the Cowboys get back to one of the top teams next season ?

A lot will change between now and the draft but some of the consensus top players are:

Joey Bosa (DE Ohio State)
Laremy Tunsil (OT Ole Miss)
Robert Nkemdiche (DT Ole Miss)
Ronnie Stanley (OT Notre Dame)
Paxton Lynch (QB Memphis)
Jared Goff (QB Cal)
Jalen Ramsey (S Florida State)
Jaylon Smith (LB Notre Dame)

We have to begin hitting on picks in the top three rounds more consistently. And hit some once in a while after that. The talent on this team is not very good at the moment and the depth is even worse. We have to stop ignoring the QB position as well, we could wind up trying to find Romo replacement for another 10 years. So basically every position is a need, except OL

I would say it depends where we draft. I'm not taking Goff or Paxton in the top 10. In fact, I think Paxton will go lower 1st or early second if that high, and he would be in striking distance if we have a top 5 pick.

Otherwise, I'd continue to strengthen the defensive line with DE or DT or go for Hargraves because, in a passing league, you can't have too many premium corners.

Getting Hargraves would allow us to move Byron Jones permanently to free safety.

After that, with Lee being undependable because of injuries and Ro being Ro, we need to strengthen our linebacking corp.

Those are the positions I would consider if we're picking top 5. I don't see a Luck, Elway or Aikman worthy of the first pick in this draft. So quarterback is out in the top tier of the first round.

If we drop in the middle of the pack, maybe I consider an Elliott (who I think is a better back than ...) or Henry.

But I'm a proponent of building the defense now absent a sure-fire quarterback.

QB - Romo will be 36 next year.
RB - We have McFadden and no one behind him.
WR - Pretty much useless outside of Dez.
TE - We have some decent backups but we need a legit heir to Witten.
RT - The only weak link of the O-line.
KR/PR - We need our next Dwayne Harris.
DT - We have some decent 3-techs but no true 1-tech and no elite DT.
LB - Lee can't stay healthy and McClain is inconsistent. Might need to completely rebuild our LBers.
CB - Even if we keep Byron Jones at CB, we don't much have a lot of talent there.
S - SS isn't strong, and we may also need a FS if we keep Jones at CB.

QB - Romo is good but see how many games he misses. He is old and we have to account for it.
LB - Lee is injury prone and i dont think that he will see next season with us. And regardless of how much i love McClain this guy skipped OTA, TC and now look at him. He is out of shape and not near where he was last year or should be right now. His head is not into football the right way. He should be cut immediatly.
WR - TWill is ok but nothing special. Dont see us giving him a new deal. Streets hasnt shown anything in 2 years.
DT - We need a run stopper (1-tech) in the middle.
S - I think we keep Wilcox but Church is really bad. Lets see what happens with Jones, but if he stays at CB/nickle back then we need to find a good FS.

We also have needs at RB and RT. But those are minor.

I agree, JB.

It looks like the most glaring weakness we have now is at LB, even with position flex. Lee is likely (or should be) done. RoMac is only useful as an extra interior pass rusher, and should not be resigned.

We're also one DB short. I like some of our youth, but we either need a CB or a FS, depending on what Byron does.
Of equal need, though, is WR, since it's become painfully clear that we have no #2 (or that he plays like #2 at times).

The next level of need is OL and DL. While they've had some success and we have some youth and depth, there are glaring holes at 1-tech and RT.

The vacuum behind DMac is obvious, and he should probably be the #2 anyway.

Then there's the ever-present BUQB dilemma. We currently have nothing to count on (even if Moore clears waivers), and we need to be grooming the next franchise guy.

PR-KR? Our current dude will be Lucky to be here next year; maybe the Trey Williams signing will solve that problem.

So, we're at least 7 good players away from solid.
It's gonna have to be a great offseason, and some youth are gonna need to step up.

for the past few weeks i have had my heart set on drafting WR, RB, and Safety(in any order) with our 1st-3rd round picks but after the Egals game it seems we have WAY more question marks then i thought. JoeyBoy718 pretty much named off everything of need.

If we are picking early i am still hoping for Laquon Treadwell, Vonn Bell, & Devontae Booker.

If we are picking somewhere in the middle Ezekiel Elliott, Tyler Boyd/Josh Doctson, Karl Joseph.

- I dont see us using a premium pick on a 1tech or on a DT in general. Maybe we use our 4th round Comp pick on one.
- Not much depth for the CB class this year. May have to look to free agency to solve this as Jones most likely stays at FS
- We desperately need a KR/PR. I wanted us to draft Stefon Diggs so bad last year. could have been our new Dwayne Harris as he looks like an absolute steal for the Vikings.
- Sean Lee future is unknown and McClain has played one decent game this year. We may need to use our 1st on the best LB on the board.
- I think the coaches see what they have in Chaz Green before they use another permium pick on a OT.
