For most of us, we became earnestly involved in the Cowboys at the historic pinnacle of the franchise's success--3 Super Bowl wins in a four-year span during the early 90s.

However, over the past decade, we've seen the Cowboys franchise at its historic low point.

That's quite a contrast, wouldn't you agree?;)

(I'm sorry I couldn't devise a better question. But when I saw a question posed solely for fans under 25 and then another question posed solely for fans over 40, I felt we needed our own question.)

:lmao2:

At least we've hit all age groups now. No discrimination taking place here.

We've got a thread for young people, old people, and really old people. :laugh2:

The mid to late 80's were pretty bad and as a young boy I can remember watching both losses to the Steelers in the superbowl being pretty hard for my dad to take

I remember watching those Super Bowls as a very young boy. I hated to lose them but hadn't quite internalized living and dying by the team. Besides, I had the 77 Bowl.

I really hated losing to the Rams in what, 79, 80? Also remember losing in the playoffs to Tampa Bay in disbelief.

But The Catch was the real crotch kick. Worst I ever felt after a loss. Nothing came close. I imagine if I was older, seeing Jackie Harris hump the bunk may have felt as bad. But damn, I was like 13 or so when we lost to San Francisco - nervous the whole game, couldn't believe The Catch, then seeing Tony Hill tackled by his shirt... crotch kick.

I guess around 88 (when I was 14 yrs old), I started really getting interested in the team.

So I got to watch to rise from 1-15 in 89 to SB Champs 3 times in 4 years.

Then came the long decline we are still in. If somebody would have told me that we would go over a decade without a playoff victory, I would have laughed in their face.

Never would have guessed it.

I'm almost 40 and I have been a fan since around 1977. So I have seen a lot of ups and downs.

It's a shame what Jerry and his ego has done to this franchise.

I remember in '95 prior to the Super Bowl, many were saying that this was probably the last go for the team in a while and I thought they were crazy. While I questioned the hiring of Switzer, I knew most of the previous staff was still in place and many of the players and thought they'd make a few more runs at it in the late '90's.

I just totally underestimated the incompetence of Jerry and Switzer. Didn't think anyone would tear down what had been built so fast. And now 13 years later all we have is a wildcard win in '96 to show for anything.

And yet Jerry's still out front and center doing the same old things. Incredible.

When I watched Jimmy Johnson's Press Conference and he said "I am stepping down or retiring from the Dallas Cowboys" - I didnt believe what I was hearing and furthermore I didnt believe Johnson when he said it.

I dont care what anybody says... he did NOT want to retire/leave the Dallas Cowboys.

He didn't, at least not at that time.

Remember, that was at the end of March at the NFL Spring meetings. It was less than a month away from the draft and well past the combines. If Jimmy was planning on retiring on his own, he would've done it in February after the Super Bowl. There's no way he would've waited til the end of March at the NFL meetings.

The only reason this happened is because Jerry got his ego hurt by Jimmy and a table full of former Cowboys assistants and personnel men not toasting a drunken Jerry. There were people at that table that Jerry had fired and now Jerry wanted them all to toast him. What a fool.

And I know there was major tension between Jerry and Jimmy for a couple of years leading up to this and that Jimmy was likely to leave at some point before his 10 year contract was up. But there was no way Jimmy was going to leave before the '94 season if it wasn't for Jerry's doing.

Of course to make matters worse, Jerry took over all the GM duties, hired a loose cannon like Switzer and put Lacewell in charge of college personnel. And then replaced Switzer with puppet after puppet until it all came crashing down and he finally tucked tail and came begging on Parcells to turn it around.

I started really watching the team around 2000...

Campo's first year.

I remember bits and pieces of SB XXX and I have to grasp onto to those memories to keep me sane. Without those all I have are memories of Quincy, Hutch and being dominated or being disapointed.

Gotta love those Cowboys.

Wow, I feel bad for you. My first SB memory is from '77 when the Cowboys beat Denver. But then I had to see them lose to Pittsburgh, get upset by the Rams in '79 and then lose three straight NFC championship games from 80-82 before they started getting older and eventually collapsed.
There were many great, exciting games back then, but for the most part the season always ended in extreme disappointment.

But I was in college when Jimmy and Jerry came along and was able to enjoy seeing the 1-15 to Super Bowl champion transformation. That was an incredible time.

I've always loved the Cowboys, but the teams I identified with the most was the one I grew up with that starred Dorsett, Pearson, White, Too Tall, Landry, etc. As great as the 90's teams were, I'd have given up one of those SB's to have had a championship team in the early 80's.

I agree and thanks for the info I didnt know.

I am glad we won SBXXX but that enabled Jerry to go on with his Coaching/GM farce.

I wonder how things would be if he never won a SB without Jimmy as coach(yes I know it was Jimmy's team and they won in spite of Jones/Switzer)

Great, great businessman. Not so great Owner/GM.

Ditto!

First game I watched was the 1977 SB and I hit the big 4ohno this year.

Since misery loves company, I'll have to ask you how you feel about turning forty this year.
