I was watching the replay of the '92 Championship game on NFLN last night and noticed that the Cowboys had two numbers on the back of their helmets: #44 and #98. The numbers were white on a black swatch, and usually used to memorialize a player. The Niners did not have the numbers so I assume they were for remembering Cowboys. I seem to recall that Robert Newhouse was #44, but I did not know he had died, and thought he was alive even now. Anybody got any ideas what those numbers were about??...

The numbers represented (2) Miami Hurricanes who were killed.. Unfortunately I can't remember their names...

Pretty sure it was Shane Curry #44.. And Jerome Brown #98

The NFL should do the same thing for the current players that were lost a sea.

I hope they do something like that...

I'm sure they will probably wear a patch or something like that. Out of respect, it would be the proper thing to do...

i think it had to do with some players that died in that year, dont quote me on that, but the most famous person that won number 44 for the cowboys is robert newhouse and he is still alive

the cowboy player that wore number 98 with any known history was godfrey myles, and he was signed by the broncos in 97, but played for the cowboys from 91 to 96. so it cant be because of a dallas cowboy player that died

only other thing i can think of, those players were honored as team captains, number 44 and 98

I have to say I'm offended by a question directed to "old timers", which I just happen to know the answer to.

That didn't go unnoticed by me either.....................

By the time 1992 rolled around, I had been a Cowboy fan for 28 years!!
I was on my second marriage, was 32 yrs old, and was finally starting my own business.....................

To me, an "old-timer" is a guy who didn't go to school in the 4th grade after Dallas lost to the Colts in SB V!!!

Since 1979 here... I remember being 10 years old when I took the plunge. I'm not quite 40 yet.

I know. How sad is it that remembering something from 1992 makes one an "old timer".
Man, how great was that season? I just couldn't believe we beat the Niners in San Fran. That was an unbelievable accomplishment for such a young team. Then that Super Bowl was just ridiculous. They couldn't stop scoring! Ahhh..memories. I guess I'll go sit my 37 year old butt back in my rocking chair...

Didn't mean to insult anyone w/ my "oldtimers" reference. It's just that some here seem to think the Cowboys were invented in the '90's and those of us that started college the year the Cowboys really did come into being (1960) know better...

I am even more offended because I watched the game and didn't know the answer. At least your memory is working fine.
