This has been one spectacular season, one that I have been very pleased to experience. I am thrilled to see the Cowboys finish at 11-5 (I picked that... ) and I love how everything came together at the end of the season.
Before the season I thought that the Cowboys would have the win the final three to get in and that happened. There is a notion that coming into the playoffs with some momentum is far better than backing in and I believe that.
All things being fair and equal, I can see the Cowboys winning a few playoff games and winding up in the Super Bowl.
It all starts tonight.
But, a thought occurred to me just now and it makes me sick to my stomach.
Finally, here is the question.
What if the final game of the regular season between the Cowboys and Eagles was fixed?
It pains me to no end but here's a theory.
We all know the back story. The Cowboys play their home games in a new stadium built prior to this year. Going into the final week of the season, the Cowboys and Eagles played to determine the winner of the NFC East. Both teams were talented and hot going into the game. Both had a lot to play for.
If Eagles win and they get the 2nd seed in the NFC and all that it entails.
If Cowboys win, since they cannot have a better record than the Vikings, the Cowboys will either be a 3rd or 4th seed depending on the outcome of the Packers and Cardinals game played at the same time. Well, the Packers beat the Cards so a Cowboys win would result in a 3rd seed.
Moving on, and here is the disturbing part, maybe the Eagles threw that game...
All week I have been firmly on the side that feels the Eagles played their best in that game because they had a lot more to play for. That 1st round bye and home field advantage should have been a great motivator.
But they laid a colossal egg. But then so did a bunch of other playoff teams last Sunday.
But those other teams weren't in the position the Eagles were. It stinks a little.
Here's why.
1. Saints
2. Vikings
3. Cowboys
4. Cardinals
5. Packers
6. Eagles
After wild card weekend, lowest seed plays highest seed remaining.
If the Cowboys win they would play the Vikings, guaranteed. Big game.
If the Eagles win, it gets interesting. Since they are the 6, they would play the Saints in the Superdome. Another big game.
But, if the Packers can beat the Cardinals it would set a Favre vs. Packers scenario which would be a HUGE game for not only those cities but the NFL.
This gives me a bad feeling about tonight's game.
It is a ridiculous stretch even in my mind so I thought 3 or 4 times about this before posting but considering the investment put into the new Cowboys Stadium and the state of the economy right now, it's not too far fetched to believe that some under-the-table dealings go on for the best interest of the league.
I sincerely hope this is not the case but I felt the need to get this off my chest.
Check my prior posts, I am not a conspiracy theorist or an irrational poster.
I hope we win tonight but now I am not so sure...
Don't hate me.
As a matter of fact, slap some sense into me. Please shoot this down. I feel terrible. I need someone to prove this wrong...
