Can you remember a WR who had as big of a season as austin did last year, who did nothing the rest of his career, barring injury related problems of course. I was just arguing with a friend of mine who swears austin was a one hit wonder and wont do anything next year and i just cant see it. not after the numbers he put up last season. Ever happened recently and when?

Well, the first name that came to mind was John Jefferson, but I checked his stats and he actually had three or four really good years.

Bucky Pope was the first name that came to my mind. He was a very tall (6'5") WR for the Rams in the 60s who had a fabulous rookie year but was injured and never rally came back from it.

His numbers wouldn't wow today's fans but they sure did back in 1964:

25 receptions, 786 yards, 31.4 average, 10 TDs. Talk about a big-play guy! Every 2.5 catches resulted in a TD and he averaged about 1/3 of the field with every catch!

He also had one of the coolest nicknames ever, "The Catawba Claw"!

Interestingly, he was almost a Cowboy as we had a lot of interest in him coming out of college but the Rams selected him instead.

Here's a cool article on him: http://gocatawbaindians.com/article.asp?articleID=2369

To the OP, have you not looked at Roy William's stats?

He has matched or exceeded his touchdown total from his best season in three other seasons. I think most of us would be fairly satisfied if Austin did that, too.

Going from 1300 yards to like 600 every year for the rest of a career is probably not common.

But how about Keyshawn Johnson. There are many receivers with that kind of history.

Edit: Peerless Price might fit the Bill.

Add Roy Williams...poor cowboys...

A chink in the armor! I've exposed a weakness!

If you think most of us would be satisfied with that, you're either an impostor, or your inebriated beyond comprehension. There is NO satisfying this crowd....

That's why I said "fairly" satisfied.

If Austin had seasons with 12, 12 and 11 touchdowns in the next few years, I think he wouldn't get too much criticism. He'd also be the first player in Cowboys history to do it.

It really looks like Peerless Price just followed a typical career arc for an average player. For three years he got progressively better, peaked in his 4th season and then progressively declined.

I think his problem was his body started to break down from all the roids he took.

He was also a very strange person. I remember reading something awhile back that he asked a teammate to take it easy on him in practice because he just got his nipples pierced.

The big winner here is clearly Michael Clayton
2004 - 80 catches for 1,193 yards and 7 tds - then bottom dropped out on his career.

Honorable Mention:

Mike Furrey 2006 - 1086 yards 6 tds....never had season like that again.
Brandon Stokley 2004 - 1077 yards 10 tds...not much outside of that season.
Quincy Morgan 2002 - 964 yards 7 tds

** there is good reason teams are tenative to offer long term deals based on one year of production.

Does the big season have to be his first big season?

Some names to look at (Several have been mentioned already).

All had a season of at least of at least 1000 yards that was a big jump up from their previous production, and fell off considerably afterward.

Marcus Robinson CHI99
Germane Crowell DET99
Michael Westbrook WAS99*
Albert Connell WAS99
Patrick Jeffers CAR99
Willie Jackson NOR01
Koren Robinson SEA02*
Rod Gardner WAS02*
Drew Bennett TEN04
Michael Clayton TB04*
Ashley Lelie DEN04*
Nate Burleson MIN04
Roy Williams DET06*
Mike Furrey DET06
Braylon Edwards CLE07*
Kevin Curtis PHI07
Dwayne Bowe KC08* <- Still has a decent chance to turn it around.

What was in the water in '99? Good grief. Also, :lmao: at the '99 Skins.

btw, * indicates a first round pick still with the team that drafted him.

DISCLAIMER : Some may be injury related.
