Let's say it would've been overturned that is WAS a catch but that he did NOT fumble....couldn't that have come back to bite Kubiak in the arse big time?? Because it would have been a first and goal then, right?

I wondered the same thing because I also didn't think that there was a clear recovery by the defense. Admittedly, I didn't see the entirety of the play (at least the recovery part) but I thought it was a risky gamble by Kubiak.

Yea, his knee was down before the fumble.

On the replay it didn't look like his knee actually hit the ground. It looked like he rolled over the defender and was still on top of the defender when the ball came out. I could definitely be wrong, though.

Ball was moving, so the correct call was made. Incomplete. The challenge was wasted.

Not disputing it...just wanting to know the rule. Because if it would've been proven and catch and no fumble, could've been disastrous for the Broncos

It was a dumb challenge. That's for sure.

It was definitely incomplete though, lucky for the Broncos.

It was only the CJ rule that saved Kubiak.

He had nothing to gain because the knee was down before the ball came completely loose. It was moving on his way down and that is why it called incomplete.

There was no chance of a fumble but it gave time to NE to call a better play. Tough call but his spotters have to help him.

Yes, when you challenge a play, everything in the play becomes eligible to be changed (I mean, within the instant replay rules that is). So if Kubiak says "that's a fumble!" it could theoretically have been ruled a catch and down by contact. Ironically, you don't lose a time out in such a case.

Having said that, the right call was made.

It doesn't matter, he never had complete control of the ball, thus, it was never a catch to begin with.

I thought it was a risky challenge as well. At best the call probably stands as called. At worst, the call is overturned, and it is most likely first and goal. That was not a strategically good challenge, in my opinion.
