Tapper 10 yd split was 1.59- an outstanding measurement. DWare was 1.62. Bosa 1.68. Tapper also had 34Vertical and 9'11 broad jump. His explosion measurements are in the top 10% if not top 5%. I hope Tapper plays like he charts in drills.

yep, he is fast but can he turn/bend?

I think I read an article someplace that Coaches hinted ( other than Gregory) that 1 of the 3 UDFA DE's had the best Bend for RDE and David Irving. I know this talk is about Tapper - but I am anxious to see where Marinelli plays Irving. At 6'7-I'd line to see Irving at LDE.....

I don't watch OK tape so I have no personal opinion, but this doesn't sound promising. We're all hoing for the "he was in the wrong system" explanation :

Weaknesses
Offsets natural power and strength with terrible pad level too often. Offers minimal value as third down player. Plays with very little dynamic movement as a pass rusher and usually just crashes straight ahead with no real plan. Hand usage needs major work.

Those breakdowns are routinely inaccurate. Watch your own film

What's it going to be then, eh?

If you watch closely youll see him chase down Amari Cooper, we shouldve snagged Eric Striker too as an undrafted free agent.

Agreed about Striker. Has the tools to be a good ST player and you could send him in occasionally to rush.

There have been an ample number of mentions whereby it was stated that he wasn't being used to his best advantage at Oklahoma. Reportedly, he was seldom utilized as a pass rusher while performing for the Sooners. I think it might be best to withhold any premature evaluations until such time as he's had the opportunity to prove himself in live action for the Cowboys.

I'm gonna wait until I see him get some sacks in regular season games before I judge him. Everyone looks good camp and pre-season then poooooey. Nada.

In his FIRST YEAR
If he gets 1 sack = bust until further notice
2-3 sacks - meh, but let him continue to develop
4-5 sacks - we got a keeper. Avg + starter
6-7 sacks - this guy should be a starter
8-10 sacks - future probowler
11-13 sacks - future all pro
14-17 sacks - future HOFer

i see what you mean.
i am a little suspicious if he really pulled his hammy in the combine.
his other tests were outstanding, why run the 2 agility tests if you know it is going to drag you down ! lol

i am just hoping we can line him further from the LT to get him better results.
although i am not sure cowboys D plays that way.
marinelli seems a bit stubborn, for example regarding the run stuffing 1tech.

I expect the defensive staff would be inclined to start him at RDE, at least until such time as Lawrence returns. Insomuch as he is something of a mystery as far as how he'll perform early-on with the Cowboys, I think he might well be working on a wait-and-see basis until some early returns are in the books. He should be allowed to show what he can do in the first four weeks. He seems better suited to play RDE than Crawford.

Yes. Usually fourth round picks have glowing scouting reports

He looks more like a 3Tek to me. not a rush end. Good strong arm, but not enough bend, at least not yet.

Show me his tape where he can do this

I think the agility drills are a good tool but at the end of the day what I want to see is his ability to get off blocks and track down the football. I'm sure there is a lot of work he will need at this level as do many DE who find the one or 2 moves they could use in college to get to the QB is not enough at this level. Hard to say what kind of player he will be but the one thing I do see in him is a guy who does not quit on plays. There is footage of him getting down field tackling a WR from behind and when I see that from a DL player it shows me a guy who keeps coming and does not stop on the plays until the whistle blows.

i went and looked at what tape i can find.
great motor, non-stop

but he just does not rush like other rde.
he is not agile enough to bend/curl around the lt on the outside and get the qb.
his spin move may improve and probably can learn another move beyond pure bull rushing.

he has a really good 10yard split.
the speed may allow him to line up a couple steps further from the lt and get a better angle.
is that enough to overcome limited agility, who knows.

lde and 3tech yes.
even if that all he is, that is a real good get for a 4th.

From this video it looks like he has the nice speed and some quickness, but he appears to lack strength and doesnt use his arms well. Almost as if he has short arms. dont know whether he does or not.

Again not trying to make him out to be a pro bowler, he has much to learn but I think he has the physical traits to be a good player and given the fact he does play hard and does not quit on plays I think give him a chance to develop under Marinelli. Given the fact we are down a couple of DE to start the season I think Tapper will get ample snaps to show himself and begin the process of developing and learning.
