Does anybody else think the Pats having home field may be to their detriment?

A friend of mine and I speculated on the fact that with NE having such a pass heavy offense, it could cause problems for them in the playoffs with the weather at home.

After all, their rivalry with Indy hinged on the fact that home field was so important so they could get the pass-oriented Indy offense in the elements.

How ironic would it be that their regular season excellence brings about their downfall.

Thoughts?

The patriots can still run, they're just so much better passing. Plus they practice on the field all year long, so they will be used to how the wind swirls etc.

I don't see it as too much of a detriment to their game. It might sway a bit toward Indi's favor, but probably not enough to alter the outcome of the game. Harrison returning to full form is the biggest factor.

My thoughts are that this is a Cowboys message board.

The question was derived from a discussion of who we would face in Arizona. Perhaps a little background was required for context?

Or maybe you're right and this is "off limits" for discussion. I guess if it gets moved that'll be that.

Thanks for the contribution.

Both teams would have the same problem. Though, the Pats do rely heavily on Brady and that passing game, I would still favor them heavily since they are a team that adjusts to their opponent so well. Even in this situation, bad weather or not, home field is still such a great advantage. And the Pats have won home playoff games under terrible conditions.

Personally, I don't care what happens to patsies. If they make it to the SB, fine, and if not, that's fine too.

My only concern is whether or not we make it to the SB and if we get there, then I'll focus on who we will be playing against. AFC playoffs doesn't mean anything to me.

The problem with the Pats running game is regardless of rank, Maroney kinda sucks and Faulk is average. You look at many passes the Pats have dropped in the past 3 weeks and it just lets you know in a possible rematch against the Colts(who arent great against the run), that's not gonna be acceptable.

I'm not really concerned about the AFC playoffs per se, moreso whether or not NE with the way their offense is so pass heavy would be at a competitive disadvantage at home.

As for if they get there (SB) or not, I hope they do so we can play them again. If they remain undefeated til then, all the better.

Both teams have to deal with the elements, sure, but the weather acts as an equalizer in what otherwise aren't even close match ups. I think that's his point. And I think it's definitely a valid point.

This is a different New England team than that of the past five years. This team relies a great deal on its offense (like us). Adverse conditions certainly could affect their ability to move the ball.

Perhaps. It is just my belief New England would put enough points up to get it done, poor weather or not. I would not disagree at all with the elements having an effect on the game.

Actually, that is a thought, as in singular, not plural because you only provided one thought.

I love idiots who try to be smart but only end up exposing their own lack of intelligence.

honestly I dont care, but since I am bored I'll chime in

Brady does play pretty good in bad weather...they've won several bad weather games in December & January since he's been there...doubt it makes a huge difference...the weather will keep them from scoring 40-50pts probably, but he's still a great QB...I'll take him in bad conditions vs any of those other AFC QB's

btw, noone is talking about the Jags, I think they can beat the Pats, they have a great running game and Garrard is a decent QB, they have a fine D too

This is really weird, but the same thought went through my mind today. Pats playing in NE, in the snow, is going to really work against them. Ironically, it might work better for the Colts, since they have a legitimate running attach and rely more on the tight end and intermediate passes.

There are a handful of veterans on this board who do nothing but criticize.

OP this is a good thread.

I was thinking the same thing. Pats have a bunch of old LB's for sure.

Jags, Browns, Colts, Cowboys, I think all of them have a fighting chance against the Patriots.

It would be just if the tuck rule came back in favor of their opponent in the snow and they proceed to kick a last second game winner that ousts the Patriots out of the spot light in the very fashion that propelled them into it some six seasons ago.
