Is our 2017 1st round pick worth 800 points?

Typically, next year's first (for any team) is valued at the mid second round value. So, points would be in the 420 range. So, long winded way of saying no...our 17 first rounder is not worth 800 points.

This.

Though every team is different and especially regarding future picks.
When you add up previous trades it's usually in the 400-500 range..sometimes more.
Maybe if a GM thinks that team will be truly horrible (so higher future 1st) they might pay up to 800. That'd be rare.

You're right. The mid round value is just a general guide with the thought that teams could be better/worse than thought, so just split it down the middle. I'm sure that teams have their own ideas of where they think a particular team will draft the next year and value that team's picks accordingly.
