Does anyone know of a website that shows the highest nationally rated games in history?

You're talking TV ratings, right?

Super Bowls or regular season?

Sorry it took so long to reply. I'm talking regular season.

I'm having a discussion with some Pats fan on another board (good guy, but a bit arrogant). I'm pretty sure the Cowboys have a few of the top 10 rated nationally televised games of all time but I want to make sure before I drop the hammer on him. :D

I'll see what I can find. But most of the top-rated network shows happened before cable (and the Internet, etc.) took a big chunk of the audience.

Thanks, Adam.

That guy claim that the highest rated regular season football game ever was last season's Pats/Colts game. I don't think that's true, but I couldn't find any info anywhere to dispute it.

I heard the preliminary ESPN numbers for this Monday game where 9 million and that was the same time as the baseball game. They broke ESPNs previous record. I'm not sure what history is, I'm willing to bet its Superbowl XXX

Are you looking for the percentage of viewers or total number of viewers?

For percentages, it'll be hard to match games from the 70s and 80s, but total numbers should be higher now than 20-30 years ago.

Dated Aug. 8, 2007:

All-Time Highest Rated TV Programs
Number of Viewers (watched throughout the game):
#1 - 1983 M*A*S*H series finale - 105.97 million
#2 - 1996 Super Bowl XXX (Dallas/Pitt) - 94.1 million
#3 - 2007 Super Bowl XLI (Colts/Bears) - 93.2 million

Note: I know you're looking for regular season numbers, but it's interesting to see that the Dallas/Pittsburgh SB is still #1, and that was over 10 years ago.

The next time Dallas makes the Super Bowl, it will take over the #1 spot.

San Francisco defeated Miami 38-16 in Super Bowl XIX at Stanford Stadium in Stanford, California, January 20. The game was viewed on television by more people than any other live event in history. President Ronald Reagan, who took his second oath of office before tossing the coin for the game, was one of 115,936,000 viewers. The game drew a 46.4 rating and a 63.0 share. In addition, 6 million people watched the Super Bowl in the United Kingdom and a similar number in Italy. Super Bowl XIX had a direct economic impact of $113.5 million on the San Francisco Bay area.

I'm almost positive that is the number of unique viewers, not the number of viewers who watched it from beginning to end.
