Question regarding DT's

In a 4 down linemen base defense there's usually 2 defensive tackles side by side(a 1T and a 3T) separated by supposed abilities and responsibilities. The 1T is usually the larger man whose primary assignment is to clog running lanes by often occupying 2 blockers at the first level while allowing 2nd level linebackers the freedom to come up and make plays at or near the LOS. Not particularly noted for pass rush skills.

The 3T is the supposedly more athletic of the 2 defensive tackle body types known for quick twitch penetration and superior straight ahead pass rush skill and quickness.
Williams is this.

Lawrence just happens to be that very rare combination hybrid of both.

Assuming a one round discount for next years picks and that GB's and Dallas' picks will be 20 or lower next year we gave up 840 points and the Bengals gave up 1300 on the trade value chart. Our second this year and pick 17-18 this year would get you close to pick 10 this year 1280 points.

Losing Lawrence is going to hurt the Giants defense. Even if they draft the best DT in the draft this year, it's not going to be enough to replace Lawrence. I know he had an off year for him last year, but I think he has a lot more left in the tank and will play better in Cincy.

No one player makes a team though. It takes all 11 guys.

Williams is much better. Lawrence was terrible last year. He may have eaten himself out of stardom.
Lawrence's last year season was definitely a decline as compared to his dominant previous 2 or 3 All Pro type years.

I think there may be a lot of juice left though as he's still only 28 and doesn't turn 29 til November.

My opinion.

I did not even read your post before posting my own which said essentially the same as mine about Lawrence's ability.
So, I agree.

#44 this year and #20 next year is almost exactly the same as #10.

Im guessing that the better of our firsts next year will be around 20. I sure hope so anyway

If we crater then we definitely overpaid
2 shots at cratering as the Jets get the best pick from us or GB.........im already sweating we do fine this year and GB do nothing with a top 10 pick we gave away. The Q trade has potential to end up looking terrible for us.

I have a great life. Very blessed. Not a negative guy at all but how can you not be honest about the Dallas Cowboys. As a fan they have been a sub optimal team. They take and give very little.

Same here on all counts.
BUT that part about being honest about the team on this message board...
Thats where I think you just may run into problems, lol.

Not from me, mind you.

This, keeping it real, this team especially the D, has been an absolute disaster the last several years and no one to blame but Jed and Jethro and even the old DC for there input on whom to choose.

Dallas gave up a 1st and a 2nd for Williams. We need to see what pick that may be.
Bengals gave up pick 10 overall.

We seen how Williams improved the run defense. Depends on what Lawrence does for the Bengals as we know.

But as far as draft capital who gave up more.

I really do not like either trade at this point. I think Dallas gave up too much.
But pick 10 overall, maybe they think the draft is not as deep in the top 10.
As far as giving up too much, that is completely depdendent on who else we get.
