Question regarding Pro Bowl and Hall of Fame

Since both are pertinent topics recently...

I always hear about candidates to the Hall being referred to a "x" time Pro Bowler. That was when most of the players actually felt it was an honor to be voted to play in the game.

But lately, players seem to find any excuse to not go and play. Will these decisions one day come back and bite them in the eyes of the voters for the Hall? Is the player still considered a Pro Bowler if he doesn't play in the game, either due to injury or personal reasons?

To the NFL, yes.

The guys who are hurting themselves are the alternates who decline invitations. Even if they can't play or don't want to play, they should accept the invitation, then withdraw a few days later. Then they'd be included on the Pro Bowl roster, and it would count as another Pro Bowl season for them.

One will be in the hall of fame in a few months.

The other has to buy a ticket to get into the hall of fame.

So that makes it okay?

Nice.

Kinda makes me think about if someone were to injure me in such a way that'd make me have to change my life plans or at least not allow me to continue my career.

I guess when you blindly hate a team so much some people don't think about that.

Class act, fellas, class act.

And you were forced to visit here by whom??? It's not like I'm visiting your teams website with a sig meant to belittle them.

Classic.

I like this board, it's a good group of fans. I lurk every so often, but I've visited a lot recently due to the HOF debate. And for the most part the conversation has been intelligent and respectful.

I'm glad you take joy in career ending injuries, though. But I'm a Skins fan, what do I know...

...right?

K, if you're referring to my sig, there's quite a difference in poking fun at Roy Williams coverage skills and a gruesome career ending injury.

You can belittle my team all you want, I don't really care. The truth hurts when it comes to our recent performance and I can accept that.

Hope Joey T's broken leg makes you feel good about yourself though.

Take joy? Show me where I've shown my excitement over that play? If you're going to accuse me, show me. Who's to say I wasn't a Giants fan back then? It simply is one of football's most memorable Monday night games in the annals of the sport. I actually was impressed by the reaction of LT after it happened...showed he was compasionate as well as fierce.

I have also been to several skins boards, but I don't have the audacity to put a sig like yours on my profiles. It's hard enough finding fans open minded enough to debate(in a friendly manner) without any incendiary sigs like yours on "enemy" turf. I at least have the classiness to remember where I am before choosing my sig.

I've no issues with other teams fans coming in here and debating in a civil manner, but they shouldn't cry foul when they see something that doesn't fit in their perfect burgandy-colored world...or green shaded, or blue shaded. We've got some good fans who visit here from the "Dark side", and I've got no beef with you as far as I know, but when you take a post and "hijack" it to show how honorable you are, realize that 99% of the people in here could care less. And when you show inflammatory images with the intention of stirring trouble in a Cowboys board, don't be taken aback if people "turn you off", regardless of the value you could add to the board.

The post was meant to elicit discussion on how the Pro Bowl appearance could possibly hinder future Hall of Fame candidates, not allow you a forum to prove your impeccable honor, which you subsequently undermined two posts later. If you don't have anything to add to the topic, don't post it in this one.

By the way, thanks Adam!

Hmmm...

Well, through my burgundy and gold glasses, when I come to a Cowboy board and see a screen cap of Theismann with his leg bending in a way that it's not intended to, what else am I supposed to think? Then I call you out on it and you say "it's just a sack." I know emotions/tones are hard to be conveyed over the internet, but that seemed pretty smug to me.

If my sig bothers you that much, I'll figure out another one.

I'm not taking any sides (I've taken a lesson from George Washington and his Neutrality Proclamation), but RW DOES look like he's been chomping on some garlic toast, and a lot of it.

Your sig doesn't bother me, actually kind of chuckle at it. And to be honest with you, I was kind of disappointed that his career ended the way it did. I missed singing happy birthday to him. :p:

Plus it expedited his entrance into the broadcast booth, and suffice it to say he's not my favorite personality in the booth...definitely not the worst though...no one can top Gumbel!

Anything Gumbel sucks. Seriously.

As well as Baldinger.

I will say, Aikman and Irvin have won me over after their playing days. Aikman's among the best color commentators out there...Irvin, while making some head scratching comments, is a funny guy. I was really impressed/won over by his class at his presser for the HOF

funny I remember asking this same quesiton a couple of years ago but dont recall the answer

how are these records kept

lets say some one is chosen or voted in or selected, as it may be, 7 times
but on 2 occassions they cant go because of an inury
but then there is one year where they were not chosen but went as a replacement

now how many "pro bowls" does this guy have
you can say 7 (amount chosen)
you can say 5 (amount chosen and went)
you can say 8 (amount chosen plus one other when they went)
or you could say 6 (actual amount went)

I always wonder about this. I wonder when you see a stat on espn where they look up this stat. And are they being consistent about it
Is there an official number from my chart above?
